Weekly Report

Whew. The Bag Lady has had a busy few days. She worked her first shift last evening after spending a good portion of the day picking over and cleaning huckleberries, then making pastry and pies.

It was worth it. She made 3 pies altogether - two of them went into the freezer for the young fella who picked the berries:

and she baked the other one for the Rancher and herself. It turned out very well.

She also spent more time in the kitchen today making huckleberry jam. It seems to have set properly, and she is pretty sure she heard all of the lids snap, so they are all sealed.

Her shift at work last night was very quiet, but the swimming pool wasn't open. It has been closed for most of the summer for a major overhaul, but was due to open today. She works again tomorrow and expects things will be quite different!

In the meantime, she has been trying to catch up on blogs, and housework, laundry and gardening!

Here are a couple of the peppers she grew on her deck this summer:

Ooh the pies look delicious! I don't believe I've ever had a huckleberry. I'm assuming they're tasty?

Glad that the first day on the job went well for you! I'm looking forward to hearing more.

Sagan - huckleberries are similar to blueberries, but some say they are better!
Second day on the job today, so I'll let you know how it goes! :)

Miz - do you need cream in your coffee? :)

Uh...I need non-dairy creamer, and a bigger slice that Carla since I'm a bigger girl...K? I wish I could make a pie that beautiful!

Marianne - why, thank you! Coming from you, that's a wonderful compliment..... are you just saying that in order to get a bigger piece?! :)

Oh, dang those look good. I've had huckleberries, I am sure. Seems to me I like them. I'll have to have a piece of pie or three to make sure, though. Interest of science and all.

dfLeah - naturally, in the interest of science!
You would love huckleberry pie! (And if you miss out here, go to Wetaskiwin someday - there's a restaurant there called "Huckleberries" that serves wonderful huckleberry pie!!

Crabby - thanks! I'm sneaking a few minutes on the computer before I go off to work again! I don't know how some bloggers do it, I swear!

Those pies look great! And there were enough berries for jam, too. Lucky you!

Thanks, BG! I just had my breakfast with a little of that jam on some toast - yum!

Jeepers Creepers, where'd you get those peppers?

Blame Leah. I have old songs in my head this morning.

And my new partner serenades me with the greatest voice ever!

Put another pot on, we're all coming over for breakfast. Toast and huckleberry jam...YUM!

I like bread and butter, I like toast and jam (wanders off singing tunelessly).

After two years of trying to grow peppers in the garden, I'm going back to containers o the deck next year - that's the only way it has ever worked for me.

Now I want to bake a pie. Good thing I've still got a big bowl full of apples from last weekend I guess.

Am I too late for a slice of huckleberry pie and a cup of coffee? (I like real cream in mine)

You continue to amaze me with your ability to fit so many activities in one day.

Geo - help yourself to the pie.

Sparrow - toast and jam it is!

JavaChick - did you get that apple pie made yet? I'm sure that once everyone is finished here, they'll be wanting to scoot over there and try yours!

POD! Just how big does that pie look??

Sparrow - consider yourself entered!

kcinnova - you'd better hurry, there's a little slice left!
And I'm working on figuring out how to stretch the days a little - I'm starting to feel like I've been on the run for quite awhile now!

Dang.. there's only crumbs left! That neighbour doesn't really need two pies, does he?

All that and blogging too. Baggie, you're a wonder. :)

Hilary - if you could see the mountains of laundry I'm wading through today, you'd think it's a wonder, alright! It'll be a wonder if I can get everything done!
