Rambling Babble

The Bag Lady has been scrambling (again) to get some crafts finished in time for the sale on the weekend (which starts tomorrow afternoon).

She took advice from some of her lovely commenters and is hard at work making cards out of her photographs. She has some sewing she needs to finish, and is feeling extremely a little disorganized. Hence this very short post.

The weather has been unsettled, of course - it rained yesterday morning, but the temperature was such that the rain froze when it hit the ground, turning the world into a skating rink. Why does this cause some people to drive even faster than they normally do? (Or is it actually that they would be normally be driving twice as fast, and consider slowing down to just above the speed limit a nod to the road conditions?) It makes the Bag Lady shake her head and want to stay home (which she does, when the roads are nasty, most of the time!)

That being said, she left her house last night at 9:30 to drive to the airport with a friend to pick up his wife. The roads were actually not too bad, but the Bag Lady is not accustomed to driving at night, so she gave herself plenty of time.
Her friends' flight arrived on time, and had taken under an hour. Her friends' luggage, unfortunately, took another hour to arrive. Apparently, the baggage cart wouldn't start. The luggage finally arrived, the Bag Lady delivered her friends safely to their home, and she herself crawled into bed just around midnight.

She is hoping to get lots of things accomplished today, so she'd better get at it!

I'm so glad it was just GP airport. I had this horrible notion that you had to drive to Edmonton airport.

I don't care to leave the house when it's icy either. I keep in mind the other driver is a prize asshat and adjust accordingly.

dfLeah - I sometimes think that 99% of the drivers around here are prize asshats!

And yes, it was the local airport, thank heavens, but it took almost as long as it would have to drive to Edmonton! It took longer for her baggage to make the journey from the plane than it did for her flight!

I'll bet those cards, along with all of your crafts will sell like hotcakes. Just keep safe on those roads

Hilary - thanks for the vote of confidence! If they don't sell, I'll be sending out a lot of home-made cards this year! :)

df Bag Lady,

You are a true friend to make an airport run on icy roads at night!

Great luck to ye with the crafts and with the craft show.

Good luck with everything to do. Airports can save us travel time, but when the luggage doesn't make it along with the flight, what a pain!

Marianne - crocheted?

dfTerrie - thanks - I'm starting to think I'm going to need lots of luck.

Aleta - that's the annoying part of travel, isn't it?

I have well traveled luggage - its been places I have never seen! :-)
Homemade cards are a great idea - I am sure they will sell quickly.
My "local" airport is National Airport, so I am pretty lucky!

Missicat - National Airport is huge, isn't it? Our local airport is tiny (although they have recently renovated and it now holds 4 airline counters and 3 rental car agencies!)
but I think delays are written into their contracts.....

Freezing rain, ugh! Now that my father is living with me instead of twenty miles away, I don't have to go out in bad weather, but when I did, I used to dither about going on the main roads, likely to be cleared first, but busy, or the back roads, uncleared but empty. Would I rather slide off the road, or have someone slide into me? I usually chose the back roads, and I was lucky that I always got up the hills, at least on the second or third try.

It's a big airport, but not as big as say - O'Hare or Minn/St. Paul. Last time I went to N Dakota you had a choice of two terminals - A or B! At least they still weren't rollng the steps out to the plane...

Glad you made the trip safely Sis! I know just how bad freezing rain can be on that stretch w/o adding the extra asshat drivers.

Mary Anne - actually, the back roads were definitely in worse shape last night - really sloppy and slippery. The mile from home to the highway was the worst!

Missicat - at our little airport, they still wheel the stairs out to the plane!!

Reb - It was actually not too bad on the highway, thank heavens. And there was no wildlife to contend with....well, except the asshats who were driving!!
