Stuff Story

Still nothing photo-worthy on the craft front.....Martha Stewart can rest easy, as the Bag Lady seems to have lost her touch as far as tying bows goes! She's hoping she gets her crafty-ness back today, because yesterday almost scared her. She made herself a plaque once, after completely renovating an old motorhome, that said "Eat your heart out, Martha!"....if things don't improve soon, she may be forced to take it down!

Yesterday proved to be yet another day of hunting for something she couldn't find - this time it was a bag of Christmas fabric that she knows she has somewhere in her house!

She's beginning to wonder if she needs an intervention or something because she has far too much stuff in her house.

There's stuff in boxes,
stuff in bags,
stuff stuffed in closets,
even bags stuffed with rags!

Okay, okay, she's not much of a poet.....

She's hoping today will be a better craft day. So many ideas, so little time.

And still no salt and pepper shaker collection. ~~sigh~~

**Edited to ask - does anyone else dislike the embedded comment section that Blogger has added? I prefer the separate page, because I like to see the avatars of my commenters!

I love that part of the issue is that you have too many ideas. When there are so many people who completely lack creativity!

Any way that you can get rid of some of the "stuff" to eliminate the clutter?

Ah, the stuff of poetry. Actually, you did a really good job with the poem. Good stuff.

Sagan - I wish I could figure out what to do with all the 'stuff'. I mean, I know I could donate a lot of clothes to charity, and give away a lot of 'stuff', but I'm too freakin' lazy.....

dfLeah - thanks. I don't generally write poems, but that one literally wrote itself!

I'm with Sagan about finding new homes for the "stuff".

And Martha has nothing on you.

Thanks for sharing....have a fantastic day!

Tricia - maybe I need to have a garage sale. Except they aren't very successful when you live out in the country....
And thanks for saying that....Martha needs to watch her back!!!

Mark - thanks for stopping by!

I sooo need to clean out my storage bin, but...well, it's scary! TOO much stuff! help!

Missicat - perhaps we could trade off - I'll clean out your storage area if you'll clean out mine! :)

Mebbe you need to craft up some organization? Like Martha turned an old armoire into a wrapping station?

I'm the same way...I keep thinking "oh! I could do (something) with that!" or "but if I give it away I'll need it!". Luckily I have a room for al lmy "stuff" now...and it all has to stay in there :).

Then I go visit an aunt who is an insane packrat. We bought our house from her, and after living there for a year got rid of a literal tonne of junk...a 14 foot UHaul full of junk. She lives in eternal clutter junkland and it makes me go home and declutter and clean every single itme. I find it's useful to just take any and all crap out onto the back yard on a sunny day and sort it out into keeper, give away and junk piles and just cast it off. Invariably I do it every spring...I end up keeping tonnes of crap anyways, but at least I pare it down a little. The diabetes association comes by every 3 months to pick up useful things...it's handy.

And honey - Martha *wishes* she was you :)

I do not care for the new Blogger comment form. How did you get the old way back?

P.S. Never mind. Sorted it out for myself.

That's the problem with having so much space Sis! Take it one section at a time and toss, donate, sell whatever you haven't used for awhile.

The museum could take some of that stuff, the S.A. or goodwill, or some foundation will take the rest. Edmonton has a reuse centre now where you can take stuff and/or pickup stuff for projects. There is an incredible list of things they will take, I'll email you the website.

Good luck on your hunt.
And yes, I hate it too.

I, sadly, am a pack rat. It's not that I want to be. I don't like having stuff crammed into every available nook & cranny...But I seem to be incapable of throwing stuff out.

I come by it honestly though - I'm told my grandmother was the same way; I inherited her auburn hair, and the pack rat tendencies as well.

I'm in desperate need of purging some "stuff."

I think you did a great job with the poem :)

Marianne - if I had space for an old armoire, I'd turn it into a sewing room. Oh, wait.... :)

Geo - it's the age-old fear - if I throw something away, I'm going to need it right away afterwards!
I am going to devote part of this winter to getting organized and getting rid of some of this 'stuff'.
Maybe someone should point Martha in my direction.....I'll teach her a thing or two. (like how to get manure stains out of clothes - bet she doesn't know that one!!) hehehehehe

Miz - loved your rhyme! Has anyone ever seen someone full-cocked? (Oops.....did that sound nasty?)

Leah - glad you got it sorted out!

SB - yes. (Love the rhyming going on in the comments today!)

Reb - thanks, sis! Gonna come and help?

Javachick - some of us do come by it naturally. I just can't help thinking of uses for all kinds of things....

Hi, momisodes! We were writing at the same time.
Maybe we all need to have a National Purging Day. Oh, wait, someone might think we're all anorexics....better come up with a better name!

Glad you liked my poem. Thanks for stopping by!

i hate it when I can't find something!!!

I noticed the new comment thing today.......hmmm....why did they change it I wonder

I have a lot of stuff - but John-the-husband collects crap.

I need to start secretly tossing it.

P.O.M. said...

OH. MY. GOD. My mother collects salt & pepper shakers - vintage ones, etc. The clutter in her house is the reason that I have only been there ONCE in the past 4 years. That, and the dog hair problem.

PURGE IT. You'll feel so freeeeeee!!!!!

the Bag Lady said...

Annette - I think they thought it would be an improvement. Personally, I like this way better.

Christine - just don't get caught! Those of us who have that packrat tendency hate to lose our 'stuff'!!

POM - It's kind of overwhelming - I think I'll have to tackle it a little bit at a time over the winter!

I belong to FlyLady and whilst they do annoy the heck out of me with their constant emails - I love how they've organized me. I can now safely have people over without needing an hour's warning so that I can chuck all my "things" into wardrobes.

It's all useful stuff, of course, stuff that I am bound to need one day. But FlyLady has persuaded me to loosen my hold on some of it.

Just a little!
