Question......

The Bag Lady has come up with something that she hopes will be a useful, popular little item, but she needs your input!

What do you think of these?
She calls them soap-savers. It drives her crazy when the soap in the shower gets too small to use, because she hates to throw away the remainder, so she came up with this idea. Here is a close-up:

It's a washing mitt, with a piece of net across the front, behind which you can slide that tiny piece of soap.

Do you think it's

a) a terrific idea and yes, I'd buy one.....

or

b) sheesh, are you nuts? Who would waste money on that?

I think its a great idea. We're sort of body wash people here at my house, but for bar soap users, looks great!

We body wash here as well, but I'd buy one for times when we do go soapy.

Looks like a damn fine idea.

Oh wow, how do you think of such good ideas? Do they just come to you at odd times (mine always happen when I'm .02 seconds from falling asleep!) I would buy one if we used bar soap. We are mostly body wash users here

Great idea! I also hate when the soap gets too small. Was using body wash for a while, but have gone back to using bars so I would get one!

I used to hate those small pieces of soap! They would fly out of my hand and I'm ready to slip and fall looking for the silly little piece of soap. I think it's a great idea!

Baggie, I think you need to remove this post pronto and market that idea before someone does it for you! I think it's great. Make that mit large enough for a man's hand and consider adding a pouffie bunch of that netting to some of them for those that like that sort of thing. I personally don't like them but so many people seem to love them. I'd buy one of each. I think you're a very bright Baggie!

I a body wash person too, but I think it's a great idea.

I would buy one.
I agree - I don't think I've ever seen one before. My husband who hates the scrunchie foamy thing would love one of those...If you put it together with a scrunchie foam thing in a cute little bag, it could be an awesome bath gift set.
Great idea.

Terrific idea! It's so annoying when the bar of soap gets too little. That would be such a useful contraption!

I love it.

Im frugal with stuff like that as tossing it just feels WASTEFUL!

If the economy keeps going south, all kinds of frugality measures will be popular.

I remember my grandmother kept a dish of those little soap dregs. I was neve quite clear what she did with them because I only visited for a few weeks over the summer, but her family lost everything in the Depression, so I'm sure she had a use for them.

I once tried taking old soap chips and melting them back into a larger soap bar. It didn't work out too well, but that was probably due to my own ignorance and not because it's inherently undoable.

I think it is a great idea Sis. I agree with Hilary too, yank this and market it!

I think it's a FANTASTIC idea! However I have one question.

Being a person with ULTRA sensitive skin, how rough is the net? If you tried to rub the tiny soap bar directly on your skin would it be abrasive with the net in between?

But if it is - it may also be a selling point as an exfoliator!

Ok, remember, you DID ask... I think the net thing needs to be smaller so the soap kinda stays in place. It needs elastic so it doesn't fly off your hand when you're washing your back, and it needs a hook to hang it when you're done. And maybe a thumb. But I love it. I am totally a bar soap user. I would even put my fresh bar of soap in it because soap and a net scrubby are not really easy to use, and this would keep my soap from being washed away.

Thanks, all of you, for such positive feedback!

I'm going to try to re-design it a little - make it for larger hands, etc.

Okay, going back to the sewing machine.....

the Bag Lady said...

Oh, and Sarah? It isn't really all that abrasive......

I think it's the coolest little thing I have ever seen!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't _buy_ one, no, but I see a future for my ragged unraveling bath cloths. I have three different variations from your design that I want to try--After Moving.

Mary Anne in Kentucky, adept at picking up tiny chips of soap from the shower floor

Genius! I hate wasting soap.

Mary Anne - go nuts. I've had a change of plans and won't be making any more right away.

Love2befit - thanks! And thanks for stopping by!

Sorry to read about the elk and fence collisions- but I love this idea, since many of my family are bar soap folks. I do like many of marianne's enhancements, too, but I think it's a nice idea in general, and allows a re-usable, washable, exfoliating experience for non-pouf/body wash types and keeps the soap usable not gummy. Good thinking, whenever you're able to get back around to it.
