Surrogate Mothers?

Emel has graduated to being outside with the herd. Well, actually, he's outside with only two cows - the rest of the herd has gone to summer pasture. These two cows are supposed to be calving sometime soon (drumming fingers on desk), so they stayed home.

Please note how both cows are keeping an ear on him.....

There are compensations to having a herd mentality.

I'm glad he's doing well.

This is great. Now he can lean how to be bovine.

We have a couple of cows that let all the calves nurse...hard to keep those two looking fat!

dfLeah - I'm glad they are both there to look after him - otherwise, he'd be lonely.

Reb- I thought it looked really cool!

Missicat - yes, they are!

Sagan - he's already going through the teenager stage - stands and looks at me when I call him to come for supper!

Messymimi - yes, thank heavens cows are protective of each other.

Gail - exactly how I felt - there's no way I can teach him all he needs to know about being a bovine! :)
