Birds

The Bag Lady thought she'd share a couple of photos with you of some visitors she had last winter. These are not especially good photos, unfortunately, because the Bag Lady has just a little, inexpensive camera.
These are Pine Grosbeaks, who spent a good portion of last winter hanging around the Bag Lady's bird feeder. Unfortunately, there was also a herd of about 20 white-tail deer who also hung around the Bag Lady's bird feeder, so there was often nothing much left for the birds! There's also one of the evil Chickadees in one photo...can you see him?

Nice! Pine Grosbeak looks cardinal-ish.. the colour anyway. But evil chickadee? How come?

I've put a feeder up for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and am enjoying the critters immensely. Along with the sparrows and chickadees, I'm seeing blue jays, cardinals, juncos, nut-hatches and a multitude of bold little squirrels. Not a single deer!

The chickadees certainly are the least fearful of the bunch, and the first to arrive once the feeder has been topped up.

The Bag Lady loves chickadees - they are probably one of her favourite birds! It is the Princess who feels they are evil, as are all other birds, and wildlife who dare intrude upon the peace of her yard! (The Bag Lady posted about this last month.)

The Bag Lady loves watching the birds at her feeder. She has woodpeckers - both Downys and the crazed Hairys, who spend most of their time sending seeds flying every which way - blue jays, juncos, nut-hatches, and, of course, the chickadees. In the eary autumn, she gets Evening Grosbeaks (they are bright yellow), then they leave and she gets the Pine Grosbeaks. We do not have cardinals here. And the resident squirrel from last year seems to have moved on - he's probably living in the granary now.

Thanks for this. We don't get Pine Grosbeaks in town much although I think we had a pair of juveniles a few years back.
We hardly had an Evening Grosbeaks visit this summer.
But we do get deer in town. We see their tracks in the alley and in the garden and on the street.

They are very pretty birds. All I see here are crows, pigeons, magpies and seagulls!
Well, we do see robins and chickadees and some other small sparrow types that I can't ID and occasionally Canada Jays.
But we have rabbits all over! I don't think the coyotes are back this year though.

Sometimes I wish I knew more about which birds were which--but the names just won't stay in my head. Sounds like you get a great variety! Thanks for capturing a few for us.

Sorry the Bag Lady wasn't around to respond to comments today - she had to go to town today, which is why she was in such a hurry this morning.
Did anyone see the little chickadee in the larger photo?
