The Bag Lady and the Rancher had to go out of town the other day because the Rancher had a medical appointment.
Before they left, the Bag Lady went out to check cows in the morning just as this calf arrived....
He was quite a large calf, and even though he got up right away and seemed strong enough, he hadn't had a drink of milk before the Rancher and the Bag Lady had to leave for their 7-hour drive.
The Rancher was worried enough about the calf that he finally called his brother and asked him to go out to the ranch to check on him. A little while later, the Rancher's brother called back and asked exactly which calf he was supposed to be checking up on because both of the calves he could see were fine..... Apparently, another cow had calved in the interim.
Here is what greeted the Rancher and the Bag Lady upon their return:
The big guy seems quite happy...
And so does the newest addition!
She's about half the size of the first guy, but that's okay. She's alive and thriving and that's the important part.
Hopefully, calving season will be finished by the time of the Rancher's next out of town appointment at the end of next month!

Coming thick and fast now. Last week, driving to work, it hit that point when there are calves everywhere. Before, I'd see one, and then a few miles farther on see another, but now it calves, calves, calves. May all yours be healthy and strong.

Fine looking bovines you've got there.
Odd that the first one wasn't born hungry, but maybe there's a streak of fierce independence in him.
Spring arrival time has to be the most exciting on the ranch. Congratulations, they look great!
Welcome to the new arrivals!
Oh, they are both very cute! Now, if only the snow would go, we could call it spring ;)
Aww.. moovelous.
I miss my calf rearing days and love being able to experience it through your blog. The latest two look lovely - but then don't all calves!
Baby cows! These pics make me so happy! So glad the calves are doing well. Mom lost one calf and its mother earlier this year. Very sad business.
