Driving from Boise, Idaho to Missoula, Montana, you drive through an enormous lava bed, covering hundreds of miles. The Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve has incredibly interesting and informative displays and pamphlets, and the Bag Lady wishes she had spent more time exploring the park.
Photo Finish Friday is the brainchild of Leah, over at the Goat's Lunch Pail.

It looks so desolate. Good pics.
Thanks, cousin. It is desolate, and goes on for literally miles and miles!
The road leading into the distance is a good interpretation of how open and barren-looking that place is. I remember visiting there.
kcinnova - it just seems to go on and on forever! And there are several mountains in the distance that look like volcanoes that have blown their tops. Rather spooky, actually.
That does look like a place I'd want to explore.. but yes, "desolate" it the right word for it.
Wanting to explore it more gives you a good reason to go back someday.
It looks fascinating, and lonely.
Hundreds of miles of lava? Wow! I had no idea what lay between Boise and Missoula. That's cool.
Have a wonderful weekend. Cheers~
Hilary - it was fascinating to see, and there are lots of different formations, apparently.
messymimi - you have a good point - will put that on the list of things to do in the future!
Conny - it was incredible! And that was only a small portion of what lies between Boise and Missoula!
Hope your weekend is great, too.
It looks fascinating. But what will they call it when we're taking tourist trips to the moon itself? Will they change the name?
Mary Anne in Kentucky
Mary Anne in Kentucky - good question, but I don't imagine I'll ever know the answer in my lifetime!
I don't know why I didn't see this on Friday, but that is so cool. I believe when I went down to AZ to visit our brother I saw some of that in Montana.
You very well may have seen some, sis!
I've never been there but after looking at some of those pictures and slides at the link, I think I should talk old Jack into a trip out that way! Those caves look amazing. Not sure I'd go in very far though :)
Cheryl - it really is an awesome sight!
