The Bag Lady spent a goodly portion of her day yesterday weeding her garden. She was not alone: she had Woody, the woodpecker for company!
Woody had to share the bounty, too:
It was the first time the Bag Lady managed to get a good picture of a Pileated Woodpecker. When it rains, it pours! (She tried to take some video of the two of them together, but there's so much noise from the slight breeze that was blowing, you can scarcely hear the woodpeckers calling!) Be sure to click on the pictures to enlarge!
Neither woodpecker was the least bit concerned with the Bag Lady weeding her garden, even when she was throwing weeds for the Princess to catch. But as soon as the Rancher came along, they left! One human is okay, two is too many, apparently!

Good for you. Great shots, I like the 2nd one with the two both looking up.
We have a red headed woodpecker who has figured out that if he pecks on our metal chimney pipe from the wood burning stove, the bugs would run out from under the flashing. He starts bright and early on spring mornings.
Beautiful photos.
Ooh, a pileated woodpecker. Wonderful. Good for you for getting the pics.
Oops, that should be woodpeckers. Two of 'em. Magnificent.
Wow. I've never been that close to a woodpecker before. Good picture :)
Lovely! We have woodpeckers around here, but I rarely see them, and never happen upon one when I've got my camera handy.
Wow, a pileated woodpecker? OMG double.
I thought they were mystical.
Thanks, sis!
messymimi - we've had a downy woodpecker do that around here - on the tin roof of the pumphouse - at 4 am!!
Leah - I was thrilled to see the two of them together!
Geo - there must have been some really tasty bugs in that tree because usually those pileated woodpeckers take off at the slightest disturbance!
BG - I've tried for several years to get pictures, so this pleased me no end!
POD - and they really DO sound like Woody the Woodpecker - hahahahaHAha, hahahaHAha!
You sure do have a beautiful spot to live in...those trees are so pretty and the woodpeckers are just gorgeous. Two at once...that's special.
We have Woody's cousin on our property and it's a hoot to watch him ram his nose repeatedly into a tree. What a job! :)
Cheryl - it was special, and for them to actually stay and allow me to photograph them was extra-special!
David - It gave me a headache just to watch them! :)
I see a woodpecker! What do I win?
hahahahaha
Awesome shots! I had no idea they had real woodpeckers same colouring that woodpeckers do in cartoons, hehe.
