More Babies!

There were a couple more additions to the herd this week. These two calves were born within a couple hours of each other.
The Bag Lady tries not to disturb the new mothers while they are bonding with their calves, but this young heifer had no such inhibitions. She tried her darnedest to steal that cute little calf. Sadly for her, she will have to wait until next year so she can have one of her own. This mother wasn't parting with her baby!

And she learned that the baby hummingbird has no fear of her.... she took these pictures with the camera practically touching the bird!

This will give you some idea of how small he really is:

A little bigger than the Bag Lady's fingernail!

I see the classic description "fits in a thimble" is NOT an exaggeration.

I'm glad mama-cow got to keep her own child.

What a tiny thing! I'm amazed.

Sounds like that heifer is going to make a great mama cow someday, she's already so attentive.

That's amazing! No wonder you thought the baby hummingbird was a bee at first. So cute!

Thanks, sis!

Mary Anne in Kentucky - it's true - it seriously would!

Thanks, cousin!

Messymimi - that heifer was trying her best, but mama was having none of it!

JavaChick - At first glance, I did think it was a bee, until my subconcious recognized that it wasn't making the right motions.

Interesting coloration on the hummingbird. We don't get that kind around here or where my father lives.

That hummingbird is amazing and it's even more amazing that you got those shots!! Love the cow/calf story. A mom is a mom, I guess.

This just in: as I was sitting on the balcony wearing red, I was buzzed by a ruby-throat checking to see if I was edible. He went by too fast for me to bring up the webcam on the laptop and aim it at him.

I have missed reading your blog! Beautiful pictures, especially the hummingbird... one of my favs. We now have a little farm with goats and chickens so maybe at one point I'll post some pix of them on my blog!

Took a while off blogging about my health but I'm back. Stop on over sometime! Vee at http://veegettinghealthy.blogspot.com
