During the preparations for Thanksgiving dinner, someone noticed this blue jay flying around in the Bag Lady's sun porch. The Bag Lady had inadvertently left the door propped open and the poor bird was trying to fly out through the windows. He stunned himself to the point where the Bag Lady was able to pick him up and hold him until he regained his senses. (His beak remained open like that for quite awhile - think of getting punched in the solar plexus - probably the same thing.)
Isn't he pretty?

Poor critter. Good for you for nurturing it back to the point it could fly again. And yes, a very pretty bird.
wow...I've never been that close to a bluebird before. :) pretty.
Very pretty bird and glad it's doing better!
Beautiful! Thank you for helping him when he so needed it.
Leah - he was so disoriented, I had to hold him (her?) for awhile.
Geo - I had never held a blue jay before - they are not as substantial as one would think!
Crabby - it took awhile for him to recover. Gave me a chance to have a good look!
Messymimi - he was definitely wonky for a little while - I was afraid my cat (the opportunistic little brat!) would take advantage of him!
For some reason I can't help thinking of all bluejays as male. I hope he felt better after his photo-op.

Mary Anne - I know what you mean, but realize there must be female blue jays, else there would be none!
Thanks for looking out for the jay. Did you see when it flew off? The only jay I've held was a dead one I found on my driveway a few years back. Frank has held.. or maybe just stroked while someone else held a baby jay, this past spring. They're cool birds.
Hilary - it flew from my hands to the top of my holiday trailer, where it stayed for several minutes until it was fully recovered. I did not actually see it leave (was busy cooking Thanksgiving dinner!), but I'm sure it was one of the several blue jays who were just now squawking around the bird feeder outside my window!
They are very pretty birds, but have some rather nasty habits, sadly.
Poor little bird! He's beautiful.
Poor jay! But so pretty and what a great photo it makes.
