It was cloudy and rainy for the entire trip, which was unfortunate for the Rancher - he's never driven through the mountains in that direction.
Here is a photo of the Columbia Icefields. The glacier has noticeably receded
There was still gorgeous scenery to behold:

Love the moody mountains. Shame Don couldn't see them in full sunshine, though.
As for Athabasca Glacier, sigh, it gets smaller every time I see it.
It's still beautiful.
Welcome Hone, df Bag Lady.
Your pictures are breathtaking. I'm not sure I miss the sunshine in them.

Lovely shots Sis. Shame that the rancher couldn't see them in better light, I guess you will have to go again ;)
That IS beautiful.
Do you suppose there's any connection between the glacier receding and your being alive?
Absolutely beautiful!
Many things have receded since I was a child.
That's where I want to be when the weather is hot.
When it gets cold, of course, I want Tahiti.
Fickle me.
I love those hints of mountains peeking through the mist more than any sunlight peak.

I think you'll just need to make another trip so The Rancher can see it all in sunshine-y glory!
I have childhood memories of tractor rides on the Columbia Ice Fields. It seemed a lot like getting into a military transport vehicle.
GORGEOUS!
Hopefully BC will be my home someday :) Spectacular mountains. Glad you made it home safe and sound.
(But the cows?? How did they fare while you were away?? :))
Beautifully evocative mountains.
And I think I might have driven that road many years ago (well I traveled from Banff up to Jasper and I was on a road!)
And I didn't actually drive - I was on a coach. Loved the scenery.
Lovely photos! Now I want to go on vacation somewhere. Taking photos in my yard is fun and all, but a change of scenery would also be nice.
dfLeah - Thanks, cousin. I was disappointed for the Rancher.
dfTerrie - thanks! The mist made for some interesting photos.
Reb - thanks. I just hope it isn't another 15 years before we find time to go again!
Thanks, Connie!
Janell - uh, I'm not sure there's a connection - I know I'm hawt, but.....
Gail - giggle - in my own life, there's been some recession, some rearranging, some redistribution...
messymimi - I'm a little fickle myself - when it's really cold here, Tahiti definitely sounds wonderful!
Mary Anne in Kentucky - thanks! I rather like it, too.
kcinnova - I have never taken the tour of the glacier, but hear that it's very interesting.
Sagan - the cows were fine - they had lots to eat, so were happy. I don't think they missed us one iota!
Dawn - if you traveled from Banff to Jasper, you were on that road! It's the only one. And I'm glad you enjoyed the scenery!
JavaChick - you'll have to visit the mountains! Perhaps next spring.
Omigosh, that is beautiful countryside. Nice job, Rancher! Too bad about the glacier...
