Washer Woes

What a week! It was busy at work, busy at home.

The Bag Lady thinks she may (finally) have a resolution regarding her washing machine. She received the unwelcome news from the repair company that the part they needed was still unavailable and they wouldn't have it until APRIL 4th!! The Bag Lady called them and complained, but they said it was the fault of the manufacturer. So the Bag Lady called the manufacturer, who told her that they did, indeed, have the part in stock, but that the repair company had not ordered it from them. Apparently, the technician ordered the part from a company called Reliable. Which, in the Bag Lady's humble opinion, isn't very!

The Bag Lady told the manufacturer that April was not acceptable, and asked the pleasant woman she was talking to for suggestions. The woman put her on hold and finally came back to tell her that the company was willing to send the part directly to the Bag Lady. Then she could call the repair company and they would send the technician out to install the new part. So the Bag Lady will (hopefully) have the part by the beginning of next week, and she sincerely hopes the technician will be available to complete the repair at that time.

Oh, and the Bag Lady finally asked the pleasant, helpful woman where their call centre was located, and was told they are in Tennessee. Lovely people, those Tennesseeans!

In other news, the Bag Lady had a nice surprise the other day when she stopped to check her lottery tickets. She won a whopping $80.90! Enough to buy another couple tickets and splurge on a nice lunch for herself and the Rancher.

Have a great weekend!

its amazing how LONG IT CAN TAKE to get a simple easy option huh?

I laugh that I once got the offer to send the part out to me and they thought **I** could then install it.

they did not know me.

I have been thinking of you every time I ran my washer. Good to know something's happening.

I"m glad you were able to track down the part finally. Sometimes the best way to do somethign is to do it yourself :)

I've not bought a lottery ticket since I once matched 5 numbers on the 649 ticket I bought on a dare and after I spent all day giddy about my "thousands" of dollars and what I'd do with it as a broke student...I found when I cashed it in I won a whopping $41!
Not quite what I had expected :)
I keep waiting for our lottery pool to win at work so we can all retire and travel the world.
Heh...still waiting after 8 years :)

Good for you for getting the matter handled yourself. The repairman is probably a lazy idiot. He sure sounds like it.
Congratulations on the lottery win. Yay!

Carla - I don't know why this solution didn't occur to anyone sooner. (and I fail to understand why the tech thinks he needs to order from a different company - it's warranty work, so the manufacturer is paying him....) And, if all else fails, I can install it myself, probably thereby voiding the warranty if anything else goes wrong. Sigh.

Mary Anne in Kentucky - it's nice to know someone is thinking of me.... even if those thoughts are inspired by dirty clothes! :)

Geo - I don't often buy lottery tickets, either. We bought a couple on a whim the other day!

dfLeah - I should have been suspicious of the technician's work ethic when he wouldn't even come out to see what was wrong the first time! Hopefully, he will see fit to come out quickly once the part is here.

Time to find a new repairman?

I sometimes wonder if this kind of nonsense is a plot to suck us all deeper into the consumer mindset. When repairs are slow, costly, and fraught with complications, one rapidly reaches a point where it's tempting to just say to heck with it and buy new.

Good luck!

kcinnova - unfortunately, I can't choose the repairman - because it's warranty work, this is the company that is contracted to do the repair work.

BG - I have been wondering if this delay has been due to the fact that the warranty will expire in May! But I agree with you - lots of times, it is just simpler to buy new because it costs more to repair some items! And "consumerism" seems to be gripping the world. Gone are the days when you bought something and it lasted a lifetime or beyond! The companies don't make those huge profits if they don't sell lots of product.

So glad you were able to talk to someone helpful! Really doesn't seem like it should have been all that complicated does it?

the Bag Lady said...

JavaChick - no it shouldn't have been this complicated, but it seems as though everything in our world IS, nowadays. Sigh.

Ooh congrats on the lottery! Those kinds of surprises are such fun.

I can't believe your washing machine still hasn't been sorted out. That's ridiculous! Hopefully there won't be any more issues... who would have thought that a washing machine could cause so much trouble? :)

the Bag Lady said...

Thanks, Sagan! This has been a frustrating saga!

Like I told you in your last washer blog, I never did receive the part for my vacuum cleaner. When I sent it, it was going to Cleveland. Oh yes, and I couldn't even hit her with a hammer because she was too far out of my reach! Good luck with your repair. Congrats on your winnings! The most I ever win is 1-2.00.

Redbush - the previous biggest win I have had on this particular lottery was $10.00! I was quite surprised. But it's all gone now. Sigh.

Which proves the point that if you have to continually remind people, you must be lying.

Glad you won the money and so is Habbah.

May I stand next to you?

Maybe some luck will rub off.

Glad to hear about the washer part.

the Bag Lady said...

POD - good point! Thanks, and say hi to Habbah from Kerry!

Messymimi - oh, dear.... you probably missed it. I seem to be right back to my ordinary, not-so-lucky self today. :) (And I probably gave my luck away to the sweet little old lady who was standing in the line behind me when I checked my tickets - she asked if she could touch me for luck, so we high-fived!)

Well, at least you won a little something. I would go back to the store where you purchased it and tell them the repair contractor is an idiot and give me a new washer.

And as I am playing catch-up, definitely post the name of the repair company and the appliance maker. Let the manufacturer know that the repair company is incompetent too and they need to authorize a new company.

Good for Princess, can't allow those coyotes to hunt on your land. After all it is posted "No Hunting Allowed" isn't it ;)

the Bag Lady said...

Reb - thanks for the suggestions! the Princess is quite protective of her "hunting grounds", and not afraid to tell everyone!

Geesh you've been without that washer for a long time now. Hopefully mister unreliable will prove his worth by fixing it as soon as possible. Hopefully he won't tell you that he can't be there until April. Congrats on the win! That's tres cool. :)

the Bag Lady said...

Thanks, Hilary! I'm hoping he'll be prompt about getting here to do the repair!

So glad you finally got it worked out! Hopefully all will go as planned;) I once went the rounds with a dishwasher repairperson in the same fashion - it was so crazy making! And a washer is so much more important than a dishwasher!!

Charlotte - I hope things are going to go as planned, too, and you're right, it does make you a little crazy!
