Weather Woes

It's minus 40. Forty below zero on both the Fahrenheit and Celsius scale.

Bloody cold.

There was a country and western song a few years back that went something like:

"It's forty below and
I don't give a f**k
I jump in my truck
and I'm off to the rodeo"

Every time the temperature drops to minus 40, that song runs through the Bag Lady's head.

Sick, isn't she?

She knows she said a week or so ago that she was no longer going to whine about the cold temperatures or the length of the winter or anything else to do with the weather, so she just wants you to know that she is NOT whining. She is just stating the facts, ma'am.

This is Tuesday, and the forecast is for the temperature to reach zero Celsius by Thursday. The Bag Lady is a little skeptical, but she really, really hopes they are right! In the meantime, she is just going to hunker down by the fire and wait this out.

Ahh, you poor thing. Stay warm by that fire! I'll keep praying for the weather to take a warm turn for ya!

Damm, Now that's cold. Don't go out today unless it's an emergency.

Oh, Like the new look of your site.

Oh yeah df Bag Lady. You're not alone. It's only -30C here, but when it gets to 40 below "The Rodeo Song" gets on the endless loop in me, too. By this time of year it occasionally spells off with
"when it's springtime in Alberta, it's 40 below"
Can't recall the name of the song right now.
Do what you have to do to stay warm.

oh wow! Will it ever end?!? It's supposed to be 80F today. Which is great and all but it snowed last weekend; everyone is getting sick from the weather changes. But the warmer weather and longer days are nice!

Rupal - thanks for the prayers! Need all the help we can get.

Missicat - unfortunately, we ran out of firewood yesterday....sigh.

Tom - it IS damned cold. I will have to go out at one point or another to feed the cows... hopefully it will warm up when the sun comes up.
And thanks - I'm quite taken with the new header my sister designed, too!

dfLeah - that other song you mentioned is actually about Alaska (when it's springtime in Alaska, it's 40 below), but certainly applies to Alberta, too. I can't recall the name of the song for sure, either.

Emily - you went from snow last week to 80F??? Holy crap!

I'd be happy with just getting above freezing. A little melting would be appreciated.

Wow. I really, really hope that cold doesn't migrate this way!!!!!

Sarah - I hope it goes right back up north where it came from, and stays there!!

And to think I was just whining about our sleet today. Did you know in some places there is actually greenery this time of year? Yeah, me neither.

The weather here is in menopause: snow then hot flashes.

And I'm getting sick from it. I'd take consistently cold any day.

Charlotte - I had heard rumours that there are places that are green at this time of year, but I thought it was one of those urban myths....:)

Tricia - menopausal weather would drive me crazy. My own menopause has actually already done that, but if the weather was in sync with me, it would be just too bizarre.

Few people nowadays have read "Mrs. WIggs of the Cabbage Patch" even if they have some connection to Louisville Kentucky, but in 1901 it was a best seller. The most quotable line is when Mrs. Wiggs says, after an extreme cold snap "The mercury done fell up to zero!" That was zero Fahrenheit, of course. I hope your mercury manages to do better.

I think you are entitled to whine about that kind of weather.... I wouldn't be able to survive it! I would take to the bed and never get out.

Oh and N !!! That's a bloody hard one!! :) I'm working on it though.

I hear ya - we're frosty here too.
The weather keeps being warm 2-3 days away.
I call shenanigans :)

Ah, I think it might have been rewritten for a radio ad. Thanks, df Bag Lady.
It'll be way easier to look up.

Mary Anne in Kentucky - I wish ours would fall up to zero - Celsius, that is!

Crazylady - believe me, I was tempted to stay in bed! But I'm hardy Canadian stock, so I'm up and enjoying the sunshine.

Geo - it's the carrot and stick approach - they keep telling us it's going to warm up so they don't suffer a mass exodus!

dfLeah - I have that song on a CD somewhere....

It's perfectly okay to whine about temps that cold. Whine away! In front of the fire, of course.

I think the third line is "got a heater in the truck". Either way, that runs through my mind at that temperature too. We didn't get quite that cold, we are sitting at -26 right now, so maybe hope is on the way....supposed to be -14 tomorrow.

wow that is cold beyond what my brain can conceptualize.

whine away BL WHINE AWAY.

(wine away? :))

Who was the genius who decided it was necessarily to colonize Canada?

the Bag Lady said...

BG - thanks! I hope the reason for whining goes away soon. Then I can whine about the mud.

Reb - of course! I knew I forgot something. Hope this cold doesn't creep down that far.

Miz - go to your local grocery store and stand in their freezer. That probably still isn't as cold as this!
:)

Sagan - some crazy guys who came here in the summer, methinks! Although, with all the mosquitoes, I'm not sure what they were thinking then, either!

They are woes! This morning it was -42 degrees here, so you must live in a warmer part of the world. I even cancelled my lunch date with a friend, but, shouldn't have because it was only in the -20's at noon. It's supposed to be warmer. I can't wait for those crocuses to peak through the ground!

that header pic is so cute..........guess I have been out of it......when did you change it?

the Bag Lady said...

Redbush - Goodness, you live in a chilly spot! :) It's supposed to be warmer by Thursday - hopefully, they're right!

Annette - I changed the header on Friday - designed by my sister! It is cute, isn't it?

Hilary said...

Oh Baggie, that's just cruel in March. I wish you warmth real soon.

the Bag Lady said...

Thanks, Hil! Here's hoping this will be the last of the really cold weather!
