Wednesday Woes

The Bag Lady had big plans today. She had to work this morning, and then had a choice between staying in town and trying to find a place where she could get a haircut without an appointment, or coming home to write a blog post and do some sewing. She opted for the second choice.

When she got home, she and the Rancher had a little visit, then she headed for the computer. The Rancher casually mentioned that she wouldn't have much time. The power was scheduled to go off at 3 pm and wouldn't be back on until 6 pm. She had seen a cluster of power trucks on her way home, but had hoped that either they were finished whatever they were doing, or that they were planning on doing some hotline work (which just means they wouldn't turn the electricity off in order to do whatever they were going to do.) Consequently, her hopes for a productive afternoon were quickly dashed.

Should have stayed in town and gotten her hair cut.

Instead, she did a little sewing by hand, then spent some quality time with the Rancher. Talking. (Silly people..... the Bag Lady and the Rancher are too old for that!)

It feels quite wintery here - gloomy and dull, and in fact, it was snowing in town. It is not snowing at the ranch (must be because we're south of town. Seriously. 27 km makes a difference, doesn't it?)

So now that the electricity is back on, the Rancher is happy (he won't miss the opening game of the World Serious) and the Bag Lady is happy because she can post this, then she can go and do some more sewing.
She knows there is at least one person out there who is probably wondering what the HECK happened to the sewing the Bag Lady promised to do for her --- it's almost done, really! In fact, if all goes well, it will be in the mail tomorrow!!

It's gloomy here, too. Kinda comforting to know we're in the same boat...I'll be thinking of you all cozied up with the Rancher...talking, of course.

Hmm, I wondered what had happened. Glad everything is sorted. Gave you a chance to slow down and enjoy the world around you, did it?

Yes, I am wondering where my pair of army underwear are that you promised to make me. Remember, size ginormgantichughmongus.

Snow again, eh? You'd think you were out in the Canadian wilderness or something...

It's been semi-mild (double-digits C) and rainy. I'm waiting patiently for summer to return.

Cheryl - It's gradually getting colder, too, darnit! Makes you think winter is coming or something.

dfLeah - yes, actually, I did have a chance to slow down! It was a nice change.

POD - soon! That camouflage fabric isn't easy to find.... :)

Hilary - no snow here, yet, but it was snowing in town. Crazy.

I'm hoping that the bag lady and the rancher are not too old for *that*! Don't disillusion me either:)

Charlotte - okay, I won't disillusion you. :)

Dear, sweet Bag Lady -- you are NEVER too old for that! Talking, I mean. Yep, that's what I tell the kids... SuperDad & I were talking...

So, are you going to be telling us what you are sewing? Or are these super secret sewing stories?

My day didn't go as planned yesterday either and it made me cranky. At least it sounds like you kept a positive attitude about the whole thing. :)

Hooray for the return of electricity!

We've been going without computers or tv most nights while camping and the break has been nice... up to a point. But I miss connecting with the rest of the world!

Hope the gloomy weather abates soon.

Oh, and what was that about Crab-stuffed mushrooms a couple of posts back? Yikes!

We're having some gloom here in Chicago as well. It has matched my mood.

And winter is coming? I'm sorry, but in my mind, if there is snow, it is winter!

Sewing by hand is so much more satisfying and relaxing than using a machine.

Here's my Special Weather Statement from NOAA:

PROLONGED SUBSTANTIAL RAINS EXPECTED FRIDAY EVENING THROUGH
SATURDAY

They must be quite substantial if they need to tell us about them. But they're not frozen.

Power outages, for whatever reason, are a pain in the neck, and never convenient.

Remember that you are only as old as you let yourself be. ;)

kicnnova - yep, we can talk 'til the cows come home! (or, in your case, the kids!) :)

Reb - I was sewing a thing for someone. Now I am going to sew another thing for someone else. (bags? 'cause I'm a Bag Lady?)

Miz - the person awaiting the thing should receive it in a couple weeks. Then she won't be waiting anymore!

JavaChick - I hate it when things don't go as I planned, but I also figure there's no point getting all worked up about it. Most of the time, anyway. Except for the (rare) times when I DO get all worked up. :)

Crabby! Oops! You were supposed to be out of touch while you are traveling and not even see that particular post! :)

Scrumpy - If we called it winter every time it snowed, it could conceivably be winter all year 'round! Although, today, it really feels like winter. Sigh.

Sagan - that's true! Sewing by hand is rewarding, unless you're in a hurry, or trying to construct an entire garment. It always amazes me that women used to sew entire garments by hand!

Mary Anne in Kentucky - see? There's a silver lining to every cloud - even those clouds with PROLONGED SUBSTANTIAL RAIN in them!

Messymimi - if we are only as old as we let ourselves be, then I'm still 12 a lot of the time!! :)

ooh. aren't power outages frustrating when you have things to do?
I'm glad you had time to just sit and...visit.
Do you get any trick or treaters out at the farm?

Geo - nary a one! All of friend's kids' are grown up enough now that they don't bring them out any more. Sigh.
The Rancher will have to eat all that chocolate himself. *ahem*
