Happy "V" Day

The Rancher and the Bag Lady went out for supper last night to celebrate Valentine's Day. The Ranchers' brother and his wife and her sister and her husband had invited them to go along with them.

This was the first time in recent history that the Rancher was not working on Valentine's Day, and it was great to be able to go to a restaurant and enjoy not having to cook. The ladies all ordered Filet Wellington, which was not as good as it could have been, but was still not too bad.

The Bag Lady also tried a new drink, and fell in love with it! She is going to have to try to reproduce it at home - partly because she so rarely goes to town and orders a fancy cocktail in a restaurant, and partly because for the price of one of those fancy cocktails in a restaurant, she is pretty sure she can purchase all the ingredients for making it a home, and still have money left over for nuts!

It was a martini called Berry Me, and was really, really good! Contained raspberry vodka, triple sec, lime juice and a selection of frozen berries.... yum.

After dinner, the three couples retired to one of the in-laws homes and played cards into the wee hours of the evening.... 9 pm or some such nonsense! Crazy party hounds, that's us.

How did you spend your Valentine's Day? (Try not to be too jealous of the Bag Lady's rip-snorting good time - remember, this is the first time she can recall going out for dinner on Valentine's Day since she moved to the ranch... 14 years, but who's counting?)

Hil - it was a really good time, and that drink was yummy! Would be perfect for a warm summer's afternoon on the beach...
sigh.

I spent Valentine's Day going over my father's house with my real estate agent and filling out the paper work to put it on the market. We put a sign up in the yard before we left, and I got mail from Jane this morning saying she got a call from another agent about seeing it before she even got home! Woohoo! Better than chocolate! I'm being hopeful.

Baggie, that sounds like the PERFECT evening to me! Although I might have lasted until 10:30pm with the card playing. ;)
Hilary is right -- share the recipe, please!

SnakeMaster, Dh, & I went on a hike midday on Saturday. Everyone had a card to open and a little chocolate at supper. That's the extent of our excitement here. We don't "do" a fancy V-day.

Our Valentine's Day was spent mostly watching movies, and laying around the house. I then made a stir-fry for supper, and entertained the dogs for a bit. It sounds like you had a great night! It must be great to have the rancher home for the first Valentine's. The drink sounds yummy! Who won the card games? Have a great Sunday!

My hubby cooked me a wonderful dinner for Valentines. It was calorie laden and scrumptious! How lucky am I!? Sounds like you had a lovely Valentines Day too !

We took mom-in-law to Village Inn for Vee-Day. Then we stopped by my favorite gluten-free bakery, looked at a dog up for adoption (nearly bit our chihuahua so pass) and came home. I ate a lot of our gf goodies. and that was the end of our vee-day! Vee at www.veegettinghealthy.blogpsot.com

Mary Anne in Kentucky - woohoo is right! Here's hoping it sells quickly!

kcinnova - we don't usually do anything for Valentine's Day, so this was a nice change. And we might have lasted a wee bit longer with the card playing if we hadn't had the half-hour drive home.

Redbush - your V-day sounds good, too. And the Rancher's SIL won the card game. She's quite lucky.

Reb - we are usually the same as you - nada. Made a nice change.

dfLeah - will need to experiment at home before I can figure out a recipe. Will keep you posted!

Crazylady - having hubby cook for you sounds wonderful!

Vee - that sounds like a great day, too!

Around here, restaurants book up at least a month in advance for Valentine's. Having spent ten years in the restaurant business, you wouldn't get me in a restaurant on Valentine's Day on a bet. They're crazy, stressful places.

I'm glad there's still someplace where it's a sane proposition to go out for a Valentine's dinner!

BG - truth be told, this is one of the few restaurants that doesn't take reservations; we went really early (5 pm) and ended up eating in the lounge because there was already a huge line-up on the restaurant side! By the time we left, there was a line-up waiting to get into the lounge, too!

Ha! Sounds like you guys had a great time! I spent it sitting on the couch cuddled up next to hubby. With the chaos in our lives, it was the best night we have had in a looong time! :)

Have a good one Bag Lady!

Miz - mellow is good!! Work is good, too, especially these days.

Rupal - snuggling on the couch sounds like a great way to spend a romantic evening!

ScottieDog and I kept putting V-Day off, because I was getting over the epizootic, and then it just sort of disappeared before we could do much about it. We don't particularly care, we hardly ever do much more than give each other cards. We have a 10th anniversary coming up though!!!! I'm researching taking a romantic trip...

Luvs to all...

(And, I'm sorry, but that is NOT a martini.)

Sounds like you had a great time.

We had people over for dinner and went to the shore with friends. Nothing too crazy.

Melissa - ten years! Definitely calls for a romantic trip.
And I should have put quotation marks around "martini" - that's what they called it on their menu. I know it's not a martini...:)

Tricia - Having people over for dinner then going to the shore sounds like a great time!

Sounds like an awesome evening, and healthy too! I imagine there must have been a lot of antioxidants in that berry cocktail.

We had a fabulous time going out with two other couples to a favorite restaurant. Alas, I'm afraid we were that obnoxious loud goofy party of six that you hate to have around when you're trying to enjoy a romantic valentines dinner for two. But WE had a swell time.

Great time! My wife and I had a nice dinner...NO kids. Rare these days. Hope you enjoyed the weekend! :)

Aww that's so sweet, sounds like fun!

On Thursday my sister and I went out for chocolate cheesecake to celebrate Valentines Day. And last night my mum and me went out for drinks and appetizers. On Saturday itself I worked and then partied with some high school friends. Good times :)

Video of Bag Lady attempting to recreate the cocktail? :D

Missicat - NYC sounds like it was terrific! I'll be hard at work practicing making that drink! Seriously. Hard at work. :)

Geo - pizza and love? Who could ask for anything more?! And I'll let everyone know when I perfect that drink.

Annette - sounds like a great day!

Sounds like a nice evening to me. We went out to dinner with friends (I am willing to use any excuse to go out to dinner, so as to avoid washing dishes) and were probably home by 9:30 or so.
