2009 has not had the best beginning for the Bag Lady. She's been sick since before New Year's Eve.
She and the Rancher spent a very quiet New Year's Eve at home. The Rancher watched Clint Eastwood movies on television while the Bag Lady mostly studied the decor in the bathroom! (She really needs to paint in there....)
The weather remains cold and slightly depressing. But the Bag Lady and the Rancher and his mom made the journey into town over treacherous roads for the annual New Year's Day feast at the Rancher's brother's house. And it was well worth it. Fabulous food, great company and a good time was had by all. (and the Bag Lady thought she was better before she went or she would have stayed home... but she's pretty sure that everyone there had already been exposed to this virus because she wasn't the only one who was sick!)
She has a physio appointment today that she is going to have to cancel - the nature of this illness is such that she doesn't get a lot of warning between "gee, I need to..." and "uh oh!" Her regular therapist is still away this week, and she has never met the therapist who is supposed to work on her today. And won't, because she really doesn't want to spread this disease around. She's hoping it will be gone soon, so she can resume her normal life.
How was your New Years? Did you have a fabulous time celebrating?
(and you really have no idea how long it took the Bag Lady to write this post, in between trips to study the bathroom decor. That wallpaper has to go. The pattern on it interferes with the shadow pictures you can make with the light from over the vanity.....)

Think of it as getting 2009's illness over with early. (Yes, years of practice putting a positive spin on illness.)
I unpacked more boxes of fragile stuff than I expected to yesterday. On the other hand, I didn't spend time at the old house packing books. Can haz rezlooshun? "Finish moving before spring."
Mary Anne in Kentucky
Mary Anne - thank you for putting a positive spin on it for me!
And I really hope your moving gets finished soon. I know just how tiring and unsettling it can be!
You poor thing. That doesn't sound any fun at all and I hope you're better soon. At least you were spared Christmas!
I cleaned, read, and knitted yesterday.
I plan on doing much of the same today, but with work and laundry thrown in there.
Hope you feel better!
Thanks, BG! This is getting a little annoying, all right. But at least it isn't as bad as the flu we suffered through last year!
Thanks, Tricia! Gee, if you're into cleaning, why not stop by here? Things could use a little polishing..... (how are your painting skills? That damned bathroom really needs a fresh coat of paint!)hehehehehe
I hope you are worlds better today.
We had brunch at the Condor Corner Cafe. Very tasty. It's a little roadside cafe (former gas station) along the highway. Clean, pleasant, and filled with character.
Hope you are doing much better! Had a quiet New Year's eve - was a big cold and VERY windy here! Think some of the fireworks were cancelled and I found tree branches down when I went out Thursday.
Going to a 12th night party this weekend - should be fun!
Poor Bag Lady! What a way to start the year. I had pneumonia one year...this year I only had a little queasiness on New Year's Eve Day, and it made me think, "uh-oh," because there's been some of your virus stuff going around here...but it came to naught.
I was going to clean out my closet on NYE, but I was too tired. Also too tired yesterday. And today. (Is there a tiredness virus?)
Anyway, I sure hope you're better soon. You must be way ahead on the weight thing though...
Oh Bag Lady, what a horrible way to bring in the New Year. From your description you have the same disease the hubby and I both had a few weeks ago. We affectionately dubbed it "the plague!"
I hope you get to feeling better soon! I thought about painting my guest bathroom after my bout with the illness but once I felt better I didn't want to spend any more time in the bathroom than I had to : )
maaaaaan, you are still sick?
the rancher needs to dote on you.
or shall I send the Tornado whirling your way?
Get well soon Bag Lady. You're already making me feel better; I'm lucky to have a cold and not the tummy flu!
Oh, dear. Feel better!!
dfLeah - thanks, but unfortunately this bug is still hanging on!
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the Condor Corner Cafe, though!
Missicat - I saw on the news about the wind storm on the east coast - it doesn't sound as though it was too bad for you, though. And a 12th night party sounds fabulous! (maybe I'll feel better by then, and will have one of my own!)
Melissa - LOL on the weight thing! I was hoping..... but nope, haven't lost anything, dang it all!
Emily - Good point! Once this is over, I probably won't want to spend much time in the bathroom, either. Right now it's my favourite seat in the house!
Miz - I'm not sure I could keep up with the Tornado when I feel well!! And I wouldn't want her to catch this bug.... but thanks for the offer! :)
SB - thanks! I actually prefer having the flu to a cold (I know, sounds ridiculous, but I hate not being able to breath!)
Oops, sorry Marste - we must have been writing at the same time! Thanks, I sure hope this is gone soon!
Feel better BL!!! Not a great way to start the year but on the plus side, it can only get better!
Very true, Lucas, very true! :)
Just think of it as extreme weight loss! Or maybe your personal cleaning program for the new year?
Marianne - it does rather feel like a cleansing program.... but I think I'm clean, so I wish it would stop now!
I wish you a speedy recovery and all the best in '09!
Thanks, David, and I hope 2009 is wonderful for you, too!
Aww poor Bag Lady! Mary Anne's got a good point. You're just getting the illness over with early on in the year! It's like with little kids, they need to catch a bunch of illnesses within the first couple years of living so that they build up their immune systems. Hehe.
Feel better soon!!
Oh Baggie, I hope you're starting to feel better. THAT sort of bug is so draining. Tuck up nice and warm and get the rancher to bring you "easy to digest" dishes once you're through the worst of it. What a horrid way to start the New Year.
Thanks, Sagan! Let's hope you're right!!
Dawn - thanks! Hopefully this will go away soon. I'm alternating between the bathroom and the closest possible chair to the woodstove! :)
ooh you poor dear.
Hope you're feeling better soon...
Happy New Year :)
Oh I'm so sorry to hear that you got exactly what the Lobster got! I guess there's nowhere to go but up from here.
Hope you're feeling better by now and 2009 get's it's act together and treats you much better from now on.
Hello Bag Lady, Please forgive me for being so bold, but I am doing a bit of blog surf to invite people to sign up for my giveaway. There are no gimmicks. This is just my way of celebrating two years of blogging. On January 4th I am giving away a free caricature drawn by me. I'd be honored if you came by and signed up for a chance to win.
Geo - thanks! It's wearing a little thin now - going into day four (was up all night again!) Happy New Year to you, too!
Crabby - Hope the Lobster has recovered well (and just how long did it take for that to happen...?)
Happy New Year!
Rick - Thanks for the invitation.
