Wee Weather Weport

The weather finally warmed up enough for the Bag Lady to do a little reconnoitering and have a look at the conditions in her yard. Here is what she discovered:

There is a little accumulation of snow around.

(In case you can't tell, this is a barbeque.)

With the temperature hovering around the freezing mark, conditions were just right for doing a little snow shoveling and roof-clearing. The Bag Lady has a scoop with a very long handle with which she removes the excess snow from the eavestroughs so they don't ice up too badly.

The Princess was more than happy with the weather yesterday and spent a good portion of the day playing, running, barking and chasing sticks, birds and anything else that moved!

At day's end, the Bag Lady glanced outside and saw the moon rising over the barn:

The weather is supposed to stay mild for a few days, which pleases the Bag Lady (and the Princess). It is so much easier on everything and everyone when the weather is not bitterly cold. It wouldn't hurt the Bag Lady's feelings if it stayed mild for the rest of the winter.

(She can dream, can't she?)

It can stay mild.

COME HERE.

The Toddler is an excellent nursemaid should you get ill again and serves up a fantastic pretend matzah ball soup!

I shall keep that in mind! Perhaps the Toddler needs to come here to experience "real" winter!! (and serve up pretend matzah ball soup!)
:)

Thanks for reminding me that I'm happy I'm in the deep south:)

Oh, but David, you don't have the joys of dealing with the crisp, bracing air, the cars that won't start, the snow to your armpits....
don't suppose you have a guest room?

I think I need to make myself a "days until spring" calendar and get a big red marker to cross them off.

(Of course, that would only remind me that I need to get everything in the old houses moved before then so I can start moving plants.)

It's beautiful, but it sounds like a lot of work. Seems like there's always enough to do in life without the weather adding more.

I'm glad you're feeling better, though!

Mary Anne - a big calendar with the days until spring marked on it would be perhaps a good thing for you, but around here could just be depressing. Spring according to the calendar is not necessarily spring according to the weather in these parts!

BG - that is so true! It is beautiful, but sometimes creates a lot of work. Cuts into the sleeping/blogging time! :)

WHOA. That's amazing. I've never seen that much snow in person (and I'm not sure I want to! Ha!) - I live in Southern California, where if I drive to the snowy mountains, it's in the high 20s, and I think THAT'S cold!!

Actually, the last few days it's been in the high 70s here, and everyone is complaining that it doesn't feel like winter! (Maybe we should swap a little of our "summer-winter" weather for some of your "winter-winter" weather, and we can all meet in the middle!)

(Oh, and I have a fold-out couch if you and the Rancher need a place to migrate to! LOL)

Lovely moon shot. And your top snow shot was geometrically appealing.
Warm is good. It warmed up to near zero yesterday. Bliss.

the Bag Lady said...

Marste - did you deliberately forget to include your address....? :)

At least you can drive to the snow, then turn around and go home to the warmth! The best of both worlds!

dfLeah - Thanks! Yes, it was around the freezing mark here, too - in fact, it must have been slightly above freezing because there was a little melting happening. Bliss, indeed.

Good shots Sis! That is a lot of snow, it is nice to have a bit of a mid-winter warm up though.

the Bag Lady said...

Thanks, sis. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if this mid-winter warm up lasted until spring!

Pretty pretty!

It's mild today here too but apparently the deep freeze is going to come back this week *shudder*. I love all that snow when the temperature is bearable, though.

Sagan - I don't mind the snow, either, it's the extreme cold that gets me down!
Our temps are supposed to stay mild for a few days. Hope the forecast is right!

Well, I don't suppose you'll be using that barbeque any time soon. Hmmm.

Glad you have some sun in your pictures though. I half-promised you some sunny pictures using my new camera. I'll see what I can do. Like Marste said, it's in the 70s today, not very winter-like. (I live in Northern California, and the weather is the same up here today.) I'm not complaining, but I do like a real winter.

Holy Cow! I've never seen that much snow in my whole life! Combined!

Another Californian (for now) sending my sympathies. It is really pretty though! Looks like vanilla frosting.

Mmm, frosting...

the Bag Lady said...

Conny - I'm looking forward to those pictures!

Gena - really?! That's nothin'..... winter has only started!

Crabby - THAT's why cupcakes have been on my mind.... frosting! :)

Ooh this could be a new game for us - guess what's under the snow!! I honestly wouldn't have had a clue with these pictures...

Good idea, TA! :)

Great shots, Baggie - particularly of the moon. We're supposed to be getting a bit of your deep freeze over the next couple of days. You didn't have to share.

the Bag Lady said...

Hilary - thanks! Sorry about the cold weather, but we were just darned sick of it, so it's your turn! :)

We just got dumped on last night too...abnout 15 cm. It's beautiful.
I can say this without irony as it is not my week to shovel snow :)

the Bag Lady said...

Geo - funny how that works, eh? It's always so much prettier when someone else has to shovel it!!! :)

Anonymous said...

I'd say it is indeed prettier when someone else does the shoveling - esp. with that much snow! But it does look lovely...
I forgot about (aboot?) the roof issues...yes, that's a biggie. We want the roof to stay over your head safely where it belongs!

Beautiful shot of the rising moon.

the Bag Lady said...

kcinnova - yes, I'd prefer the roof to stay where it belongs, too!
Thanks, the moon posed really well for me!

We had snow piled up like that before Christmas. It was up to the bottom of the cat door and they wouldn't go out because that is usually a step down and they didn't like stepping out and feeling their paws sink down so far. On Dec 24 it warmed up and I took pity on them and shoveled them a bit of a landing pad (sticking my arm out through the cat door, using a garden spade).

But after that it warmed up and most of the snow melted. Of course, the forecast is for snow off and on for the rest of the week, so we may get buried again.

the Bag Lady said...

JavaChick - It snowed again today, for what seemed like forever, so I have to go out and shovel AGAIN!! Damned winter.
