Strange Storm

The Bag Lady and the Rancher did some work in the corral yesterday. The weather was very warm, but windy, and they accomplished quite a bit. As they were finishing up, the Rancher looked at the sky and commented that there was a storm coming.

He was right.....

It looks so, so cold where you are!

BG - it was actually quite mild yesterday... around +10C (50F) but dropped really quickly to around 0C (32F)when the storm hit.
The wind is still blowing and feels quite a bit colder today.

Aha, I was just about to ask you if the temps dropped or rose suddenly after that storm. I've witnessed a few of them here in Southern Ontario over the years. Usually only a couple of thunder claps but still .. freaky, eh?

Hilary - MIL says she's never seen a thunderstorm in January in all her 80 years in this area! Freaky is right.

That same storm hit here about 9.30 last night. Didn't last long, but was fierce. Apparently winds up 100kmh were recorded in Slave Lake.

You must have been in RD when the other lightening storm hit GP in the winter...it made those really cool snowballs.

Yeah - I wasn't around for the snowballs, but I was here for a thunderstorm that hit in December one year.

There's supposed to be a picture, isn't there, and the internet doesn't like me tonight. Reloading didn't help. Drat.

There was thunder with the ice storm here early this week.

Actually, Mary Anne, there was a little video clip. Sorry it didn't load for you. Perhaps tomorrow?

It likes me today. Yesterday there was just white space with nothing to even click on. That's a storm, all right. I would much rather sit here in the sun and watch the ice fall off trees.

I take it that it has warmed up there? Glad to hear it!

I would say "crazy" described it, alright! I wonder what my parents would have said if they were here. It was a great video! Maybe we could say, it's due to global cooling! Ha!

It was definitely strange! But short-lived, at least. Didn't cut into the evening too much! :)

What a weird storm.

It was highly unusual for this time of year! Not the snow part, but the thunder and lightning were bizarre!

This winter is reminding me of "The Long Winter" by Laura Ingalls Wilder, the book where she chronicles the 7 months of blizzards in the Dakotas. Reading it in my younger years, I could only see the snow and the cold and the boredom. I recently read it to my 9yo and was struck by the near-death, near-starvation aspect of it all. The way you describe that storm coming up is how many of those blizzards arrived. Crazy now, scary then!

The sight of your Canadian flag flying high and proud in the storm made me smile. :)

kcinnova - it never ceases to amaze me how tough our ancestors were. To survive the winters, especially here, where it gets so friggin' cold, with nothing but their own skills (no electricity, no Emergency Service Personnel...etc.) - damn, they were amazing!

And I just had to include my flag flying - I AM a proud Canadian!
