Moose for Supper

The Bag Lady was busy again yesterday. She chopped ice away from the waterer so the cows were less likely to put their foot in it. Then she hurried to town to her physio appointment. While in town, she ran a few errands, then came home again to finish up a few chores. The roads were not in the best condition and she was a little tense, to say the least.

Once home, she tried again to download her pictures and videos from her trip to the bush with the Rancher. She thinks she may finally have them somewhere accessible, so keep an eye out for the video in the next few days!

She also had to chop some firewood today, so she's pretty much axed out.

She and the Rancher were just sitting down to supper last night when they noticed movement in their yard, and went to the window to discover two moose investigating the Rancher's pick-up! The Princess insisted on going outside to rid her yard of the evil intruders, but even the stout-hearted Princess knows better than to get too close to those long legs! The moose moved away from the truck, but were not the least bit intimidated by the dog. They weren't even worried when the Rancher went out on the deck for a better look.

Unfortunately, it was too dark for the Bag Lady to take pictures to share with you. The moose ambled around for awhile on the driveway, then headed off into the darkness. For all the Bag Lady knows, they are bedded down in the yard behind the house - that has happened before! Several times last winter, the sun would come up to reveal mama and her yearling just getting up from their night spent sleeping in the Bag Lady's garden!

Have a great weekend.

I love these adventures!

Hope you have a great weekend!

TA - sorry to disappoint you! I just wish I could have gotten a picture (or better yet, a video) of the Princess trying to chase the moose out of the yard.

Miz - I always say there's never a dull moment on Scratch Nut Creek Ranch.

Rupal - thanks! Hope your weekend is great, too!

Great adventures daily at the ranch.

Glad to hear you still have all your limbs! :)

I would love to have moose and deer in the yard to watch.

Tom - yeah, I'll bet all the city folk are jealous!! :)

Geo - yes, managed to not hurt myself yesterday!
Having the moose and deer to watch makes living here much more rewarding!

I too am glad, after seeing the title, that the story didn't end with a shotgun blast and mooseburgers for supper.

(Not that I wouldn't try a mooseburger... I just prefer to think that meat gets to my table via magic.)

That must have been quite an exciting adventure for Princess!

Wow! What's next, we all wonder?
I cannot imagine Bad Cat and Bad Kitten's reaction to a moose, they get excited over tiny little birds!

Crabby - mooseburgers are actually pretty good, but I, too, prefer to think meat arrives on my table via magic! (there's that split personality again! Don't want to think about what eventually happens to my cows!)

Missicat - my dog goes crazy regardless of the size of the intruders in her yard, but the only things that excite the cats are birds and squirrels. Everything else just elicits a yawn.

Jeez! All I get in my garden are bunnies who poop and eat my tulip bulbs! Moose sound much more entertaining. :)

the Bag Lady said...

Lucas - moose are more dangerous, for sure! And perhaps not as cute as bunnies....which, BTW, I do not see many of. I see bunny tracks in the snow, but they hide really well.

That's so exciting! Moose are so majestic.

I like chopping firewood but its been years since I did that. As I recall its HARD.

Oooo...I want to see a moose! Deer have become so dull. :)

Sagan - moose are majestic! I like them.
And chopping firewood is far easier when it's really cold outside. It splits better. Not sure if that's got something to do with the water content of the wood or just the fact that you really don't want to be out there so you work harder at it...:)

Haley - I so wish I could have taken a picture... Unfortunately, they didn't bed down in the back yard - I looked for them this morning to no avail. Next time, maybe.

I wonder if this is the couple you saw on the roadside a few weeks ago?

Glad they were just visiting.

Oooooo, I wonder if the moose were checking it to see if it was a Ford, or a Chev! It must be the weather. I looked across the way to the neighbors' places and saw a moose nibbling on their bordering willow shrubs. Then he looked up, bolted, and stopped. I don't know what startled him. He could probably feel the eyes on him! Missie, Princess is pretty smart to know how close to get! Here's to a weekend of maybe more moose experiences! Happy moose marvelling!

wood-choppin...........you sure get a workout in your everyday life! Man :)

Reb - it could have been the same pair - it's kinda hard to tell.

Redbush - They sure seemed interested in it! The Rancher was worried they would lick something that wouldn't be good for them, like spilled diesel fuel!

Annette - I do try to do something every day that will get my heart rate up. Sometimes all it takes is to get out of bed and read how damned cold it is outside!

I was thinking Chocolate Moose too! How exciting that you get to see Moose and their yearlings.

Glad you made it home safely.

the Bag Lady said...

Thanks, Maggie! Maybe they'll come back in the daylight hours one day and I can get a photo to share!

Oh a vid would have been great but at least you have the mental video. They must be a lovely sight to see.

Hilary - I wish I could have gotten something on film, but it would just have been shadows... Next time, maybe!

They will lick the Cowboys' truck clean if it has salt on it...
hey, put a salt block on your front steps and you will get wonderful video (except Princess might have a heart attack trying to get out after them)

Sometimes they stop by and lick Dad's front window (after pruning the rose bush)-

Hi, cuzzie! I think the Rancher was worried they would ingest some diesel fuel that had leaked onto his truck!
They've pruned a few shrubs around here too - the crabapple tree was a favourite!

"Adventures with Baggie" was hilarious. Thanks for that. It's so fun to read about your life.

Thanks, Poutalicious - glad you enjoyed it!

As long as the moose weren't planning on taking the Rancher's truck for a joy ride...
