Blue January

The Bag Lady was unable to leave her house yesterday. She spent a goodly portion of the day in bed, mostly feeling sorry for herself. What a wimp.

The Rancher has threatened to take her to town to seek medical attention. She is starting to come around to his way of thinking, except that she is sure there is nothing that can be done. This is probably something that just needs to run it's extremely long freakin course! But there are still errands to be run in town, and if the Rancher is willing to drive, the Bag Lady will definitely go with him!

January is traditionally a month for hibernating, and the Bag Lady has that down to a science. She has all sorts of little plans and ideas for things she would like to get done around her house, and the cold weather is certainly an aid in accomplishing those tasks. When it's nice outside, the Bag Lady (like most kids) would much rather be out there! Her housework (never something high on her priority list) definitely suffers in the summertime, so she tries to make up for that in the winter. She needs to do more deep-cleaning (there are a few more storage areas that need to be explored) and has mountains of paper to deal with. Unfortunately, her little affliction is interfering with her plans. It's hard to concentrate on anything else when your tummy is in an uproar.

What about you? What do you do to help conquer the January blues?

Hide. Hiding is the most bestest remedy ever for Blue January.
It's also the most unrealistic, sad to say. Sit in the sun for a few moments. Do it inside with the sun through a window unless it's warm enough outside to be in the fresh air.

I agree with the rancher. It's time to see some help re: the affliction. It's gone on too long to be good for you.

I tend to do my organizing-type projects in winter, too. I always hope to emerge, like a butterfly, fabulously ready to enjoy nicer weather with a light heart. Sorry your tum's still not cooperating.

I'm also catching up on reading and toughening up my fingertips on a new ukulele.

If you're not better sharp-ish, listen to the Rancher!

dfLeah - hiding is definitely on the Bag Lady's January agenda. In between bouts of house-cleaning frenzy!

Clare2e - exactly what the Bag Lady strives for - emerging with a light heart (and clean, well-organized house) in the spring!
And a new ukulele!!? Right on! Happy plucking, or plinking, or strumming!!

Go get the Rancher. Put him on this blog right now. We need to talk to him!

Rancher, please just drag that stubborn ole Bag Lady of yours to the doctor, willya? Thanks.

Baggie, you may have your blog back now.

Hilary - methinks he is on the same page as you. And I'm starting to agree. Unfortunately, my own doctor is away for a month, so it will have to be the ER....*shudder*

Wish I could just take January and clean and redecorate. But there are children to be fed, and endless loads of laundry to process... I did take time this morning and clean off the top shelf of the coat closet. Pepto Bismol, btw? Can cause constipation...

BL, listen to the Rancher and the rest of us: go to the doctor.
(I promise I'll send your immune system back when I'm through moving!)

Marianne - Hmmm, my Pepto-Bismol has an expiry date of 2006. Should I just take lots of it?

Mary Anne in Kentucky - AHA! That's where it went!! :) Well, when you're done with it, don't forget to send it back. (Of course, I just got on the scale and have lost 4 lbs, so you can keep it for a few more days - I wouldn't mind losing a few more pounds!! *snort*)

Still sick?!?! Bag Lady, you might really want to consider going to the doctor. I wouldn't want you to do permanent damage trying to be brave for all of us internets. We promise not to think any less of you if you seek medical attention. Just think of how much better you'll feel when you break it off with Mr. Toilet!

Oh, and as for 'surviving' January. It's 67F here today! I think winter skipped us (and gave you a double dose) this year.

I'm praying you'll get better soon!

Hmm, Bag Lady I really did have a bad stomach sickness when I was travelling and they did say if it goes on for over four days then the bacteria has taken up residence in your gut and you'll need some anti-biotics to flush it out. Otherwise it will go on stealing your nice energy and nutrients and persist in making you feel like crap.

I'd take the Rancher's advice and seek professional advice....

I am trying to escape my Blues by dieting, as ever....

Get thee to a doctor missy! Then feel better.

I'm all about the hibernation. And novels. That's what keeps me sane in this cold... and writing! Story writing. Makes you forget how miserable it is outside.

Go seek medical attention!

I try to keep active. It's hard, but making myself go out and do stuff is really the only way I keep myself from curling up in a little ball and hiding until spring!

I hope you feel better soon!

Bag Lady,

If you don't feel well, stop playing medical woman and let the Ranger get you into town for a checkup. My wife is just like you and fights going until whatever she has lingers for 3 weeks. Only then can I take her to a doctor and then finds she can be cured by a simple antibiotic in 2 days.

Also a big fan of the hibernating. Wish I could stay home and cuddle up to the wood stove every day, but have to come to the freezing cold office. My challenge this time of year is to make myself get out for a short walk in the afternoon. If I don't take a break from the office, the day seems so long and then it's dark by the time we're heading home. But it is really hard to convince myself to go out in the cold - I usually need a reason. Today I walked up to the mall to buy toothpaste. Tomorrow we're supposed to get snow and ice pellets, so it may be one of those really long days...

January and February are for hibernation. Sadly, the world doesn't allow it-- husbands still want to be fed, kidlets still want lunches for school.
Last year I started reading blogs, which really brightened my dark days. So this year I guess I will just blog. And read.

Now PLEASE go get medical intervention. Now!!

I agree - Januarys are made for hibernating, or organizing when you come up for air.
Going to the Dr is a good idea, if just for peace of mind (yours and ours!)

If you're still symptomatic, you should definitely see the doc. Even it it's something that can't be cured, your doctor can prescribe something palliative so you feel better. You've been brave long enough!

Yup, I agree with the Rancher. Been going on way too long. Maybe you have some kind of mysterious parasite. (Okay, I've been watching way too much "House." I know.)

the Bag Lady said...

Thanks, everyone, for your concern. I did go to town and sat in the ER at the hospital for 4 hours, saw a doctor, was told it was either a)viral, for which they can do nothing, b) bacterial, for which they will prescribe antibiotics, or c) something else.

4 hours to be told what I already knew.

Hilary said...

So which one did the doc.. and you decide upon.. A, B or C?

the Bag Lady said...

D. None of the above! Need more tests..... didn't want to get too specific! :)

I usually find a boxed set of a series to pop in an episode here and there, but now that my studio is set up in the basement I hope (knock on wood) to work on glass projects at least once a week...busy work that I enjoy. That and I have to practice a lot for the bellydance recital in Feb so I don't make a fool of myself...

I agree with the man in black - if you're not feeling better soon you should see someone, just to make sure you'll be OK...it might be somethign you need meds for...

Geo - I did see a doctor, and things are in the works. So glad I am not a lab tech! So glad.
