Hilary - thanks! The Rancher is a good operator of all types of equipment. It amazes me to watch what he can do - the machine is almost an extension of his hands.
Miz - it was actually quite relaxing to go with him and basically just watch him service the loaders (not on the video - filling fuel tanks and adding oil to the machine just seemed a little TOO boring....)
Annette - thanks. It was a reasonably warm day, but I was perfectly happy to sit in the truck and watch, most of the time, just stepping outside occasionally to film what was going on! Oh, and to help a little.
Beautiful sunset. It would be nice to work outside...cold but nice :) I would love to be able to play with that giant machine...I'm constantly amazed at how people can make giant machines like that work so delicately.
Geo - it was a gorgeous sunset! Unfortunately, once it set, I could no longer take good video. A part of me would like to try running that machine, but the sensible side of me says I shouldn't. The potential for harming someone else outweighs the fun...:)
Oops - Tricia - sorry, I didn't mean to ignore you! That loader could definitely do damage... *evil fantasies racing through brain*.... wouldn't want to piss someone off when they were operating it!
Crabby - ooh, methinks a crab like you must have major claw envy right about now!!!!!
Wow - that claw thing is pretty scary! I would definitely be useless on a ranch... Look at all that snow! We are getting a few flurries today, nothign tomorrow. Tomorrow, sleet and ice. *sigh*
It's good to know that machines have to do their warm up exercises, too.
The first 1:40 was just fascinating, although it took forty-five minutes to load. Then it just stopped loading for me. I didn't notice for a while, since I was collecting recycling and doing laundry and unpacking things....I have only seen those machines unloading logs at the mill as I drove past.
Now I'm eyeing my neighbor's front loader with greater interest. I was already planning to ask "Leonard, when you have time, maybe you could teach me to use that thing?"
Mary Ann in Kentucky - oh yes. Ask your neighbour to teach you! It's an experience you won't regret! I'm just sorry you couldn't see the whole thing. Maybe next time you try, it will load properly.

My hubby watched the whole thing with me and gave me a fly-by-fly of what was actually going on, in between your headings, as he used to do the very same operating. I went with him once and found it very interesting, but he's done his time and says he doesn't miss it! Great video, and I loved the ballet idea! It seemed to keep time to the music. Now, I want to ask you, is this another job that you're going to learn to add to all your other talents?! I could never compete!

Been catching up on your blog--my stinkin' homecomputer won't show the movies; I'll have to check out the video at work, but you have a much more interesting life than I do. I've never had moose wander into the yard, although a ferret once followed me down the driveway.
