The Chair

The Bag Lady has been really busy the past few days! She had a project to finish, and it was haying time, and her garden is producing all kinds of things that need to be dealt with, and she and the Rancher actually took a couple of days off and went camping on the spur of the moment!

She pickled some carrots and will write up a little tutorial for you, if you're interested. In the meantime, here is a picture of her almost completed project. She would like to add a pillow or two, but hasn't had time yet:

The Bag Lady is a firm believer in rescuing used furniture. She rescued this chair from the landfill a few years ago. It was natural colour (she thought she took a "before" picture, but can't seem to find it!), and had no cushions. She finally got around to painting it and had some foam leftovers from a previous project, so she made some cushions and set the chair on her deck. She knew the fabric was waterproof, which was a good thing because the weather broke while she and the Rancher were away on their little camping trip and the chair got rained on. The water just pooled on the fabric and she was able to pour it off!
She will try now to get caught up with what everyone was doing while she was away!

Looks lovely Bag Lady!

Thanks, cousin! I kinda like it.

JavaChick - thanks! It's kind of you to say so.

It looks a neat and well-cared-for chair, and I wouldn't have known where it came from! I picked up a little wicker chair from a park... it had been abandoned there for some days so I finally took it home. We never did anything with it, but now you've got me wondering. :-) It's very small, though; probably meant for a child.

Very nice!! Love how you recycle...

Hi, diddums! It's amazing what a coat of paint can do! If I had the chair you mentioned, I would probably paint it and use it to hold a flowering plant or as a place for books....
Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks, Missicat - lots of things can be restored, reused, reconfigured - all it takes is a little imagination and elbow grease (and sometimes a big can of paint!)

Wow, what a great makeover! It's amazing how you can take stuff from the dump and turn it into something lovely.

Thanks, Crabby! I just can't bear to see something useful get pushed into a pile, or a hole in the ground!

That is such a sweet porch chair, BL! I could sink right into it with a lemonade and watch the bees buzz.

Wow. That's amazing! And gorgeous, too. :)

Love the chair!
Glad you and your hubby got to go camping. Love camping!

Good job Sis. Now you'll have to do the hanging chair to match ;)

the Bag Lady said...

Thanks, Clare! I intend to do that one of these days - just as soon as I get the garden produce dealt with... sometime in September, maybe! :)

Thanks, Marste! Just wish I had taken a 'before' picture.

She-Fit - thanks! The camping trip was just what we needed.... now if I can recover from the camping trip, I'll get some preserving done! :)

Thanks, Sis! I just might do the hanging chair, one of these days. I actually do have yet another "found" chair that could go out there, too.... needs a little TLC yet.

Change your name to the ChairLady or the Rescuing Used Furniture Lady.
I had foam leftovers too until I ate them.

POD - I think you're right - I should change my name. Gardening/canning/pickling/preserving/chair rescuing/rancher/bag lady just seems such an unhandy handle, though. :)

And doesn't begin to cover it all.

Did the foam give you indigestion? It does me.

That is so cute and should be on my terrace right now with a cocktail table next to it on which sits a cape cod.

the Bag Lady said...

Scrumpy - that sounds like a terrific idea! Except, where the chair goes, I go, so are you sure you want us on your terrace?! :)

That chair is beautiful! It looks so comfy too. Camping sounds like a fun time. Tenting?

And you KNOW I want to hear all about the carrot pickling :D

the Bag Lady said...

Sagan - no tent. We have a really old motorhome. Almost like tenting, but without the tent.

I'm going to try to post about carrot pickling soon, I promise!

I love it. I wouldn't never thought it was a recycle.

Great looking chair! I had a broken zipper on my waterproof love seat cover. I meant to safety pin it together (since I can`t even thread a sewing machine, much less sew) but alas. Tikki got to it first.

Apparently, POD has been posting delcious foam recipes and he couldn`t help himself.

the Bag Lady said...

BG - Thanks! I'm quite happy with it.

Sparrow - So does that mean that Tikki will be too full of foam to come and pick peas?

Wow, you're busy! I'd like to refinish furniture but am not sure I'll end up with a decent looking piece. You have quite a talent. Great looking chair.

We grow carrots, but I don't seem to grow enough to satisfy our little family - we eat them as soon as we pick them. My kid doesn't like them dried and I don't like them pickled or frozen or canned.

We are getting a lot of yellow squash and tomatoes. Yum!

p.s. I had a pluot today... yum!

the Bag Lady said...

Vee - it IS a busy time right now. The garden is producing quite rapidly now, and I am trying to keep up!
Glad to hear you tried the pluots!

I'd LOVE to send Tikki your way (or to Siberia) to learn to work.

Unfortunately, he is too full of P & V to be of any use.
