Wednesday Woes

Oh, the weather outside is frightful, and going to get worse, apparently! It's been in and out of the deep-freeze in the past few days, and heading back in soon. Winter in Alberta.

The Bag Lady took her mother-in-law to town yesterday for appointments. It was a long day, due in part to a mix-up with mother's appointment (the booking office told her to be there at 10 am for a 10:30 appointment, but the clinic didn't have her on their roster until 1:30 pm! And of course, they were running late, anyway!)

The Bag Lady dropped her at the hospital and did some shopping and running around, then went for her own physio appointment and hurried back to the hospital, thinking mother would be done and waiting. She was a little surprised to find that she hadn't gotten in yet because by this time it was after 12 pm. It was only after the nurse called another fellow who had been waiting with mother and had mentioned that his appointment was scheduled for almost an hour after hers that the Bag Lady decided inquire. The nurse who discovered the mix-up was quite accommodating and got mother in right away. It was still quite some time before she was done - lunch was delayed until almost 4 pm!

The Bag Lady is more than happy to stay home today and try to get caught up on some of the chores that have been neglected in the last few days. She has mountains of laundry to attend to, needs to do some more cleaning and start decorating for Christmas. The weather is also making her want to hunker down and hibernate until, oh... April! It's been alternating between really quite cold and slightly warmer. When it warms up slightly, it snows.

The Bag Lady also discovered that she has no sound on her computer. She isn't sure where the problem lies, so will have to do some investigating. Her cat likes to sleep and play amongst the wires under the desk, but the wires all seem to still be connected properly. The Bag Lady will have to crawl under the desk to make sure, but she thinks it is something else. Any suggestions?

Edited to say that the Bag Lady's tried and true* method worked yet again and she can now 'hear' on her computer again! (*turned it off, counted to 100 and turned it back on!) Modern technology - gotta love it!

Ugh -hate waiting at the doctor office!

We in Wisconsin owe you our thanks. We've been blessed with Alberta clippers more often than we care to be. We got about 3" of snow last night and 8-10 more on the way. Yipee.

Enjoy your chore day.

DfBag Lady, do the speakers come on? Check all the possible ways your speakers could be muted i.e. the volume and mute buttons on the keyboard, on any speaker remote control, the media player program you have, the computer proper, you get the idea. Playful pussycats can operate all kinds of things. I muted my speakers once for whatever reason, then forgot I'd done it. It was several minutes before I realized what I'd done and where I'd done it.

It's not too cold now, but we got fresh snow over night. Apparently, like you, we're in for it later.

Sounds like a long day! Today sounds like a good day to stay home and relax. It's snowing here, and piling up fairly quickly. Sigh. I was really getting used to this no-snow, warm-weather type winter...But I guess I new it couldn't last forever.

Sounds like a busy day! I would make sure the volume isn't muted on your computer - a lot of times that is the problem.
Rainy all day today again. Fortunately it did warm up enough so that it isn't freezing rain like it is some places close by!

What a long day...we're in the deep freeze here too. It's warmed up to a balmy -28. Joy.
My parents arrive tomorrow, so it is clean the house like an idiot night...hibernation weather just makes you want to sip tea and realx instead of doing useful things, doesn't it?

It's even freezing here in California, but, well, nothing like you've been getting.

Sorry, other than check wires and turn things on and off, I have no helpful computer suggestions. Hope your sound returns!

Linda - glad you are enjoying the snow! Happy to help... :)

Miz - no reading - my germ phobia gets in the way - won't touch the magazines, and forgot to take a book with me! So we chatted a little, and while she was actually in with the doctor, I walked around the hospital (not touching anything, of course! That place is FULL of sick people!)

dfLeah - I will have to do some checking of that kind, too. I know I muted it on one program that was playing really annoying music, but the little icon says it is back on.

Javachick - I've been noticing you aren't having the greatest weather out there, but it could be worse, right?

Missicat - I will have to check the various ways it could be muted.
Rain? And not even freezing rain? Sheesh.... will this mean a brown Christmas for you?

Geo - oh yes, sitting and sipping tea in front a fire sounds really appealing! Unfortunately, I have to bring the wood in first, and wouldn't be able to relax, looking at the dust and animal hair all around me.... sigh.

Crabby - maybe you'll have a white Christmas, eh? Hahahahaha

Thanks to my Palm T5 I never forget to take a book. At least you got some exercise indoors in this weather. I'm used to waiting two or three hours at the doctor's, but with only people with appointments earlier than mine going in ahead of me. When I moved here ten years ago, there were two doctors. Now there are four, but the population has increased more than fifty per cent.

I enjoyed staying home in the snow/sleet/freezing rain yesterday, seeing the four inches of snow on the Jeep and knowing I didn't have to clean it off. Today it's melting and I have to make up for it.

Mary Anne - if I had given it some thought, I would have taken a book....
Glad to hear you are in the melt - it'll probably start melting around here sometime in .... March!

That's a frustrating mix-up at the doctors office! But at least today you will get to catch up on chores and such. And decorating! Always fun.

The river by my house is now frozen and the ice is being smoothed, so that means skating, hurray! Some good things about the cold weather, I guess (she says with the heater cranked up, bundled in lots of big sweaters).

It looks like I will be living your adventure. I'm taking my mom to the doctor today and we just received some snow last night... I always have the sound off on my computer. I probably wouldn't know whether it's working or not. Good luck on fixing it!

Don't ya just love the holiday season where regular chores get mixed in with decorating and shopping? Drop in a screwed up medical appointment and you'd almost feel like sending a miserable cow to butcher. Oh wait, that last one did happen.

And Oh, throw in a snow storm or freezing cold for a few days.

Good luck today. April is right around the corner.

Sagan - oh, skating on a river! Scares the crap outta me, to be honest! The river between here and town still has an open channel...

David - good luck! I hope your mother gets in to see the doctor within a reasonable amount of time and that her appointment goes well!

Tom - that cracked me up! Thanks - I needed a chuckle.

You would think that the receptionist would see someone there for that long and question it!

It's so hard to believe there's cold weather elsewhere when we're back in the upper 70's for the rest of the week. We long for the cooler weather, just to make it "feel" like Christmas.... Stay warm!

the Bag Lady said...

Aleta - I'll do my best to send some Christmassy weather your way - I'm more than willing to share! :)

df Bag Lady,

I always book the first or second (If I must) appointment for doctors, hair, whatever, unless there is a real scheduling problem because I just don't wait well.

I have a double appointment (see doctor, take some kind of test) next week and because it's a double it's several hours into the work day. I dread it already.

Thanks for letting me whine! Glad your sound is up. Terrie

Reb said...

Wow, that really sucks about MIL's appt. I'm surprised at you not taking a book though. Have fun decorating!

the Bag Lady said...

dfTerrie - you can whine here anytime! I don't envy you your double appointment - don't forget to take a book!!!!

Reb - if I hadn't been in such a rush to get out the door, I might have remembered to take a book. I honestly thought she would be done before me, though, because her appt. was supposed to be at 10:30, and mine was 11:45..... I figured she would be finished and waiting when I got done with my appt. Just goes to show, I should have known better.

Stinks about the mix-up, but I'm glad you can hear your computer again.

Oh wow, you did have a crazy day yesterday. I'd most definitly stay home and get your chores done as "recovery!" Funny how working at home sometimes doesn't seem quite as bad since you set your own schedule and don't have to worry about a booking office making a mistake. If you get too much know, feel free to send some down here...it's close to 70F today : 0

Thanks, Tricia - not sure what was wrong with the sound on this thing, but I'm sure glad it's working again!

Emily - 70 degrees?! Sheesh - it's almost Christmas! That's too warm - sounds crazy. (Hope I don't sound too jealous....:))

Bag Lady, the electronic books are for when I finish the book I took with me because I had to wait so long, or when I barely drag myself into my clothes because I'm too sick to go anywhere but doctors don't make house calls. Emergency books are good.
The snow here is gone from the roads and almost gone from the ground, and we have mud mud mud. It's going to keep raining, too. I'm dreaming of a Sloppy Christmas?

I have the same way to fix my computer: a good hard shut-down!

Sadly, it isn't working for fixing the S-L-O-W issues.

Mary Anne - I'm hoping for snow for you for Christmas!
And I must look into getting e-books!

kcinnova - yours is slow, too?! I thought mine was the only one that took forever to load anything!!
