Calving season has started (early) at the ranch. According to calculations, the first calf should have arrived April 12th.
The Bag Lady has some cows who need to brush up on their math skills....
Both these calves were born on Good Friday.
Shortly after the calf pictured above entered the world, the cow in the following picture decided she wasn't to be outdone.
They are both female calves, and almost identical in looks. Temperamentally opposite, though! The older calf never stops running around, exploring and bouncing. The second calf is calmer and more placid, although she has been seen cavorting and gamboling with her buddy.
'Tis the cute season around here.

Clearly, that first one MUST be named Bunny. ;)
Too sweet.. and as always, I don't want to think about them down the road.
Hilary - you're so right! She is definitely bunny-like!
And these are heifers and will turn into mamma cows some day, so don't worry about them!
Bunny! Hilary is brilliant as always :)
The second calf reminds me of my boys...and I'm trying to come up with a girl name!
How about Billie?
I saw quite a few new calves on our trip through Utah last week.
Beautiful, the joy of spring.
It's something i never get tired of seeing.
Ahh, baby cows. If it's open season on naming, then I suggest Caramel for the other calf.
Karen - I'm trying to avoid naming the calves.... it's easier when the time comes to sell them (IF we sell them. We do sometimes keep them and increase our herd.)
messymimi - I'm glad, because I feel the same way! Probably why I post pictures of them every years!
Leah - I like the name Caramel, too, but might have to put it to a vote!
You can always wait for another calf to name Caramel. If you consent to naming them.
Ahhh, calves! Cows insist on making up their own minds about calving.

Leah - still not sure about naming them!
Mary Anne - yes, I've learned all about cows making up their own minds!
And changing them, too.
(Lucky me, I've never tried to change a cow's mind.)

I like Caramel as a name for a calf.
Cute li'l things :)
I love calving season! My mom has 2 cows that are due any day now!
yay...I was hoping the cute calf pictures were coming soon :)
Oh my goodness, they're adorable!
Nothing brightens up a morning like baby animals, of pretty much any species. But cows have that special ungainly bovine charm that just makes me grin. Thanks for sharing the pics!
Thanks, everyone! It's been a busy time around here, but I should have more pictures to share with you... soon!
