Friday Random Round-up

It's Friday again, and the Bag Lady has some random stuff to share. She was pretty excited because she has some American Kestrels nesting in the back yard. She tried to videotape them to share with you, but the sun was at the wrong angle and she couldn't get good resolution. She'll keep trying.

It's Calgary Stampede time again, which means the chuckwagon races are on. For all you city folk, click here for an explanation of chuckwagon racing. The Cowboy and the Bag Lady like to keep an eye on the race results, because several of the champion drivers hail from their community. In fact, the Cowboy has known several of them since they were kids. The Cowboy's uncle was involved in chuckwagon racing as an outrider when he was younger, so there has always been a lot of interest in the sport in his family. The Bag Lady doesn't want to play any favourites so she isn't going to mention any names. (Go Hughie!!)

It's been one of those weeks where things seem all topsy-turvy and discombobulated. (Don't you love that word? But just try and work it into a sentence....) The Cowboy is working, the weather hasn't been the greatest and the Bag Lady doesn't feel as though she has accomplished much. It won't be long before things will get really busy again, but right now feels like the lull before the storm. It's been a bit of a faltering start to haying season. The Cowboy is working unexpectedly long hours (and weekends!), the haybine is broken, and the weather hasn't been exactly co-operative.

The Bag Lady can do many things, but she is hopeless when it comes to machinery repair. If more than one part comes off when you take out a single bolt, she's in trouble when the time comes to put things back together. So, in spite of going to town and getting the part required to fix the haybine, she has to wait for the Cowboy to put it back together.

Speaking of the Cowboy, he mentioned again that he really doesn't like the nickname he's been stuck with, so we need to find something else to call him. The Bag Lady doesn't think he'd take too kindly to "Mr. Bag Lady", so she's throwing it out to you. Any suggestions? (Nothing too racy, though, because his mother reads this blog!!)

The Outlaw? (has a nice ring to it...)

Dragonslayer? (hmmm, kinda long.)

Studly? (his mama - remember?!)

As Terrie Farley Moran (who blogs over at Women of Mystery) pointed out recently on the Bag Lady's sisters' blog (Sibu Pegasus Power), the Bag Lady is slightly nick-name-impaired! (Terrie commented that she understood why the Bag Lady needed help naming her calves after she read the Bag Lady's suggestions for nicknames for a bear purchased by one of Reb's friends!) So make your suggestions for the Cowboy's new nickname in the comment section, if you so desire.

Oh, and one more thing! Look what the Bag Lady cooked up for supper the other night:

The very first feed of new potatoes from her garden.

Have a great weekend!

Considering we have a cat called "the Moo," I feel ineligible to offer advice on nicknames. (Though "the Outlaw" does sound cool).

And those potatoes look great!

Miz - the Big Feed Sack? hehehehehe

Crabby - the Moo sounds like a perfectly good nickname to me!!

Dragonslayer. I love it. Seems a little random though.

I really like 'The Cowboy' though. You guys do raise cattle after all. Shame he's not happy with that.

How about Mr. Complainy-Pants? No? Huh.
