Up-dated Friday Round-up

Presenting.....FARLEY! Named for Terrie Farley Moran, who blogs over at Women of Mystery
This calf was up on her feet in about 10 minutes, and didn't even fall down! She is very strong, and very tenacious!

The last fading light of a prairie evening.....

The Bag Lady took this photo a little after 10 pm last night. Click on it to enlarge it and see the little sliver of moon up high in the sky. (Please ignore the spot of whatever in the top right corner - her camera does that whenever the flash goes off...)

It's still cool in the evenings, although the days are getting longer and the temperature during the day is quite mild.

Not too many miles from here, they had an incredible amount of snow yesterday - something in the neighbourhood of 14 inches! The Bag Lady was out and about yesterday and saw a vehicle with snow on the hood. Must have come from closer to the mountains.

The Bag Lady is waiting to see what the weekend brings in the calving department. There are a couple more cows looking quite close to calving. Of course she will post pictures of them whenever they arrive! Don't be silly.

Have a great weekend!

Beautiful shot, Baggie. Before enlarging it, I thought that spot up to the right WAS the moon and figured it was an older pic. I know you get more daylight than we do per day, but there's no way you get a fuller moon than we do! Enjoy the weekend your own self. :)

Lovely moon/evening shot, Cousin.
We were in the 14 inches of snow neighborhood down here apparently.

Hilary - thanks. Longer days and extra moons! What's not to love?

dfLeah - Just think of it as extra moisture!

Fingers are crossed for more little cows to be birthed safely this weekend (I know there's one named Emily in there some where!)

I love, love, love the picture...everytime I try to get the moon, the screen turns out all black! Guess I need a better camera : )

I hope you have a good weekend and the weather stays fair.

Wow! Beautiful! Won't be getting any photos like that in the lovely D.C. area, they are calling for rain on and off the whole weekend. Wah. On the plus side, it has helped with the pollen count!
Looking forward to the new babies!

Emily - I'm still hoping for a little black calf for you...the one and only black cow we have is taking her own sweet time, though.

Missicat - at least it's rain and not snow like in Leah's neighbourhood! It's supposed to be quite nice here today. Sunny and warm, which is good, because there's a cow pacing around out there, looking for a good birthing spot.

Preeeetty. I think when I lived in the Netherlands the thing that I missed the most about Canada was our gorgeous sky!

the Bag Lady said...

Thanks, Mizfit. It actually seemed a lot lighter outside when I took the photo, so I was surprised at how dark it turned out. Not much of a photographer. Sigh. Oh, and yes, you are on the list... eventually, there will be a Mizziefit on this here ranch.

Sagan - our sky is the best, isn't it? Gotta love Canada!!

Do you know how many cows are still expecting? At least they don't head for your closet and give birth on your shoes like my cats did when I was young...:-)

Missicat - you just cracked me up!! Thank Dog they don't calve in my closet!!!
There are 8 more cows to calve, since we had another one just now...
Must post photo soon.

Go Farley! What a strong and healthy calf.

Wow, 10 minutes? That is great, welcome Farley!

Love the night shot I wonder why your camera adds the extra dot? Is your flash automatic? Maybe cover it if it is?

the Bag Lady said...

Farley is a big, strong calf! She has already had a nice drink of milk and was jumping around like a true goofball!

Reb - I will try covering the flash next time, but it did this when I tried to take pictures inside the barn, too, and needed the flash there. Sigh.

Hilary said...

Baggie, dumb question, but are you sure it's not just a spot on the lens?

the Bag Lady said...

Hilary - it might well be. Perhaps it was there all along, and only shows up when the flash goes off. I dunno. I clean the lens regularly. (and when it happened in the barn the first time there were lots of spots which didn't go away when I cleaned it...)

Hi All,

I haven't been able to post today (Blogger misbehaving) in several spots, including here, but I wanted you all to see the email I sent to Bag Lady several hours ago when I first saw the beautiful Farley.

df Bag lady,
What an honor! And she has the same color hair as I do. I bet hers didn't come from a bottle.
My son and his wife named one of their dogs, Farley, after me. I am beginning to have quite an entourage!
Thanks so much. I am pleased beyond words. I have to hurry off now to send this link to everyone I know!

dfTerrie - so glad you are pleased with your namesake! She is a real go-getter, strong and active!
Glad you can finally post a comment, too!

I do believe that Farley looks suitably mysterious as befits the namesake of a mystery writer.

the Bag Lady said...

Dawn - I do believe you are right! And, having read Terrie's story, Farley is a suitable calf to represent her main character, too.

Am loving the calf pictures! It must be such an exciting, busy time.

Thanks for sharing it all with us--I get to feel like I live on a ranch without having to do any chores!

Crabby - glad you are enjoying the calves! (and don't worry - I don't mind doing ALL the chores...really...you just go ahead and relax...)
