There is something to be said for being snow-bound. The Bag Lady just isn't sure what that something is! She is tired of the snow. She is tired of looking at it, she is tired of talking about it, she is really tired of trying to walk through it.
She wishes there was something else going on around here to tell you about, but there's not. There's just snow. She was sitting in the living room, watching TV with the Cowboy, her back to the window. The sun was shining behind her. The Cowboy got up, looked out the window and said "It's snowing." Even when the sun is shining, it has been snowing! Sheesh.
She went out to check cows not long after that, and the sun was shining. It was still trying to snow, but not as hard as it had been. And it doesn't really show up well in this photo, but it looks kinda pretty anyway. (Somewhere under that snow is the Bag Lady's garden...) If you click on the photo to enlarge it, all the little sparkly bits are the last few snowflakes. And the Bag Lady is really, really hoping they will be the last few snowflakes of this season!!
It has warmed up a little, so the snow is packing down a bit, and is getting slippery. Oh joy, oh bliss. The corral is a lovely, muddy mess. Ah, the country life.
The days are getting longer. The Bag Lady took this picture at almost 9 pm last night. It doesn't get dark here now until 9:30 or later. In a month or so, it won't get dark until almost 11 pm.
You can see that the snow has melted and packed down a little from the other day. With any luck, it will warm up enough today to melt most of this.

Now that's one thing that might be cool about living up north-- really super long days. If it weren't for the snow, I could safely run at night!
That really is a pretty shot, but yeah, I can imagine how tired you are of the stuff. I thought ours was never going to end. Poor Baggie!
Wow, the snow really has gone down there. I like that first shot, very cool.
So where's this global warming they keep talking about???
As pretty as it is, hope you get some relief soon.
BG - you would love it here in the summer - especially with your penchant for being up late at night - you could get so much done in the evenings!
Hilary - it is starting to wear on me!
Reb - thanks! I had hoped the snowflakes would show up better, but I still like the way the shot turned out.
Crabby - that's exactly what the Cowboy keeps saying! Sure wish Global Warming would kick in!
dfBag Lady, I love the pic of the sun and snow. The sun shone as it snowed here so you weren't alone.
dfLeah - it was really coming down for a little while - so thick we couldn't see across the yard - but the Bag Lady was too lazy to get up and take a photo.
The sun was shining through out the entire snow storm.
I can't believe how late it gets dark there! I visited Calgary a few years ago and I remember it getting dark really late and light really early...that plus the time difference totally screwed up my internal clock. Of course if you live there I'm sure you get used to it!
I think the snow is so pretty in all your pictures. Of course that is probably because I don't have to live in it for months every year!
I remember visiting my grandmother in N. Dakota (practically on the Canadian border) and it seems like it stayed light forever...I remember it being light around 9:30 -is that possible?
Missicat
This may seem odd, but I have a quick cow question - we were talking baout this at lunch today (how we got on the topic I have no idea) but I thought you might know the answer: How old does a cow have to be for to to have calves? I know there's an age where you breed them on purpose, but how young can they be?
Okay, I'm starting to think you actually live at the north pole. Do you have any neighbors with a jiggly belly and a white beard?
Hi, Emily - glad you enjoy the snow pictures. I'm getting a little tired of it, myself. Almost cried when I heard the forecast for tomorrow - more snow.
Missicat - if you visited N. Dakota around the summer solstice, it's entirely possible it was light at 9:30 pm. The further north you go, the longer the light. Where I live, at the summer solstice, it never gets completely dark if the sky is clear. More like a really heavy twilight. Sun sets around 11 pm, then rises around 3 am.
Geosomin - cows are capable of getting pregnant around 6 months of age, but most ranchers wait until they are between 12 - 14 months of age before they allow them to be bred. (And the gestation period is similar to humans - around 9.5 months (286 days.)
SB - no, the jiggly belly is mine! (I shave the beard in the summer...which seems to be really slow in coming this year!!)
Baggie.. I remember the beard pic well... ;)
That was back when I was young and it hadn't turned white yet!
Oh ye of little photoshop faith! ;)
That's too bad about the snow! But it should be gone soon, I'm sure. At any rate, at least its all sparkly... maybe it can be a nice reason to curl up with hot chocolate in front of the fire one last time before spring hits? (I'd totally take advantage of that:)).
Hilary - hmmm, idea?
Sagan - the Bag Lady really should take advantage of that...apparently, she will get yet another opportunity tomorrow.
