Springtime in Alberta...

As you can see, our weather hasn't improved yet...

But that hasn't stopped the calf production!

Lucky for this little guy, we managed to coax his/her mother into the barn before she/he was born. The Bag Lady hasn't gone into the stall yet to determine what sex this little one is. It was only about an hour old when she went out to check on things this morning. Wasn't even dry yet!

And the weather is supposed to stay nasty for the next few days. Sigh.

Such a beautiful little calf!

I am in cooking-mode and was taking another look at your ice cream recipe... 1)By "lemon flavoring" do you mean lemon juice? 2) Does the type of milk used make a difference? 3) Have you tried making it into chocolate ice cream by adding cocoa powder or something similar?

Thanks:)

Hi, Sagan:
I do think you could get away with using 2% milk, maybe even 1%, but I've never tried it that way.
I wouldn't use lemon juice - too acidic - there is lemon flavouring, same as vanilla. If you don't have any, use vanilla.
I haven't tried adding cocoa powder, but if you do, you may have to increase the sweetener.
What I usually do with any new recipe is make it exactly the way it is written the first time. Then, if it works well, I start playing around.

Awww what a sweetie! Its big, wary eye reminded me of a jelly-filled Tim Horton's donut.. maybe we should name this one Timbit! ;)

How sweet, all wet and drinkin' his/her fill.

Hilary - Timbit works! The Cowboy says he's pretty fat!
Reb - hopefully, he'll get a drink soon!

Still wet and already wants to eat. Looks like a good healthy calf.
Glad you got mother inside before the little one's debut.

Timbit Snowflake. Works for me.
dfLeah - he finally got a drink this morning. We've had quite a time with him - his mother is very old and has big teats - hard for him to get ahold of. Think he's got the hang of it now, though.
Missicat - it is STILL snowing! We have almost as much now as we had all winter. Sheesh.
