Princess Swami

Bath time for the Princess.....

This was actually taken some time ago, but the Bag Lady was scrolling through her photographs looking for inspiration and came across this picture. The Princess has quite an attitude about taking baths - she never seems to think she needs one!

Picture, if you will, a cartoon dog with all four feet planted on either side of the shower stall door, and you will have a pretty fair idea of how the Princess reacts when it's bath time! The Rancher has to pick her up and carry her into the shower stall. Of course, it's the Bag Lady's job to actually give the Princess a bath....

Once she is in the stall and the door is shut, she resigns herself to actually having the bath, usually planting herself on the floor of the shower stall with a huge sigh. But if the bathing process takes too long, the Princess will start to protest. Softly at first, but gaining in volume and intensity until it's a full-blown, pathetic wail!

The Bag Lady has learned to hang the towels over the door of the shower stall because as soon as the door opens, the Princess leaves at full-throttle! She heads straight for the living room and crawls under the coffee table, which is her safe haven. This is where she hides from thunderstorms, or other loud noises, and where she disappears to in any and all dire circumstances.

Spring is just around the corner, and it's a guarantee that sooner or later, the Princess will tromp happily through a puddle, or roll in something impressively smelly, with nary a thought to the fact that, in order to live in the castle with her subjects, she might possibly have to suffer through another dreaded bath!

The things we go through for our pets! At least yours is a walk in shower big enough for both of you - and she gets out on her own.

Our pooch being so close to the ground with his little skrimpy legs + London weather=DIRTY dirty dog! So he gets frequent baths, poor thing. But he has succumbed to the lathering, mostly because he gets a treat at the end of it all!

Ours hides under the coffee table too!

How cute is the Princess.

noncanine lovers just do not get it.

Oh dear. Poor thing, it won't be long now...

Our long-haired cat gets subjected to an annual Summer Shave, which involves a shampoo too. If we don't have it done, she's barfing up hairballs all summer (oh, sorry, were you having breakfast?). And once she's finished, she loves her new summer cut (as ridiculous as it looks). However, we take her to a groomer and pretend we had nothing to do with it.

Poor Princess. Forced to bathe. What dogs put up with to please their humans.

Poor pathetic little Princess! Dogs do love to roll in stuff, the smellier the better.
Have a feeling Bad Kitten may be subjected to the summer shave also...have to call ahead and warn some poor groomer...

Reb - yes, I'm grateful for the walk-in shower with a door - not sure how I'd keep the Princess from escaping a regular bathtub! :)

Rupal - your little dog probably actually fits under the coffee table! The Princess has to do a very ungraceful belly crawl to get underneath it, now that she's fully grown!

Miz - thanks! The Princess thinks she's pretty cute, too! And yes, it's amazing what we'll do for our pets!

Crabby - not sure why my long-haired cat doesn't get terrible mats - he never gets groomed around here.... *ahem*. Maybe it's the steady diet of mice and birds.....

dfLeah - poor Princess indeed! Everytime I turn on the shower, she runs and hides under the coffee table! Silly Princess.

Missicat - oh no, poor Bad Kitten! (And poor groomer, too, by the sound of things!) :)

Our 4 year old 10-lb chihuahua kinda likes baths, and has gotten to where she'll go in the shower with Hubby. Doesn't like being drenched tho. As to the 4 month old 40-lb puppy, we gave him his first bath a couple of weeks ago, and boy he was shocked that we did such a thing. Geez, he was disgusting. And looks a lot smaller - he's 1/2 malamute and quite furry. Hmmm... I think it's time for another bath. :) Vee at www.veegettinghealthy.blogspot.com

Poor princess!

Vee - the Princess has hated bath time since she was a pup! We don't bathe her often - just when she gets into something smelly, or gets really muddy.

JavaChick - the Princess thanks you for your sympathy!

I can only think of the one time I had to give my cat a bath.
I had to buy a new shower curtain and it took weeks for my arms to heal. Cat+bath+no fun.

When I was little our dog used to LOVE baths. she had no problem being plopped into a warms soapy tub. It was hard to keep her from running into the living room, shaking water everywhere and then just going back out and rolling in the dirt again :)

Geo - I'm sorry, but that's too funny about bathing the cat!
The Princess would run outside and roll in the dirt right away after a bath, too, if she could!

Hehehe she looks so unimpressed! I never bathed my dog. She was afraid of water. What kind of lab/border collie cross is afraid of water?!

the Bag Lady said...

dfTerrie - no worries - as long as we have the Princess, we'll keep her safe haven!

Sagan - we had a dog who couldn't swim! She was a year or so old when we got her, and one hot day, the Rancher threw her into the dugout to cool off, just after he had thrown my golden retriever in. Thor swam happily back to the dock.... Whiskey justlooked at him as she went glug-glug-glug... slowly sinking! Fortunately, he hadn't thrown her very far, so we managed to reach her and drag her out of the water!

Princess does not look impressed. Poor babe! Bonzi, on the other hand, pretends he doesn't want a bath, but, in the summer, I take three pails of water outside, tell him to stand, and Bonzi will actually stand for 20 minutes until I am finished scrubbing him down and rinsing him off. Then he's off to find his ball for us to throw. When we take him in to town at the Suds 'n Tub place, he isn't impressed with the metal floor, so sings most of the time. I'll bet Princess smells pretty, now!

I know what that's like with Benny. He very often finds a dead, rotting fish to roll in. He's probably a bit easier to handle though. After he's sprung loose, he rolls all over the sofa to dry off. Love the photo .. too cute. :)

the Bag Lady said...

Redbush - the Princess really doesn't like her bath, but tolerates it, unless it takes me too long.....

Hilary - why, oh why do they have to perfume themselves with the most wretched smells they can find?! And then trot back to us, all proud. Sheesh.

She's precious! I have dachshund mix with that same coloring. We always say you can tell what she's up to by watching those eye spots. The Princess seems to have the same, ummm, determination about having her way as our Lucy does! Does she get a treat after her bath?

the Bag Lady said...

Amy - of course she gets a treat after her bath! And before her bath. And after supper. And first thing in the morning. In fact, she gets treats on demand! She is well-treated..... :)

I can hardly get my 9yo to dry his hair with a towel... I can't imagine drying off a dog, too!

the Bag Lady said...

kcinnova - it takes at least 3 towels to get her dry. If I can get her to stand still long enough.

I have to set up the bathtub with the fixings for the dog wash, including the stool I sit on, without my fluffy dog noticing or he's long gone. Then I have to grab his 45 pounds and tote him upstairs anyway.

I feel your pain. My dog could sog up 3 towels, but he'll only tolerate me getting through 2. Unfortunately, he's had a skin allergy recently that's meant I have to wash him at least weekly. Oh Joy!

the Bag Lady said...

Oh, Clare! A weekly bath? That must be torturous for both of you! The Princess would never come out from under the coffee table!
