More Canadiana Answers

Here are the answers to the Bag Lady's second (and probably last, at least for awhile) Canadiana quiz!

1. Which of these people is Canadian:

a) Howie Mandel
b) Jim Carrey
c) Pamela Anderson
d) Jennifer Tilly
e) Leonard Cohen
f) none of the above
g) all of the above

2) The largest city in Canada is:

a) Edmonton
b) Toronto
c) Vancouver
d) Montreal

3) the longest river in Canada is:

a) the Nelson
b) the St. Lawrence
c) the Mackenzie
d) the Yukon

4) Canada has the longest coastline in the world.

5) Canada has the longest national highway in the world.

6) Which is bigger; Alberta or Texas - but not by much! And Quebec is bigger than both.

7) True or false - the Vikings were the first Europeans to reach North America. When the Bag Lady wrote this quiz, she was under the impression that the Vikings were the first Europeans to reach North America - traces of them have been found in Newfoundland. One of her readers (thanks, Christine!) pointed out to her that St. Brendan of Ireland quite possibly was here 500 years before that! So technically, the answer to this question might very well be false.

8) The name Canada is an Iroqouis word meaning village or settlement.

9) All Canadians have spent time in an igloo - true or false, unless you count the snow houses we all built when we were kids!

10) What colour are the Bag Lady's eyes? Hazel, but they change colour according to her mood and what she is wearing - from blue through grey, to bright green, to almost brown, so most of you were right - well, except for Melissa, who thought they might be magenta...! (and, right now, thanks to rubbing Lakota Rub on the Rancher's sore back, they are bloodshot because she didn't realize Lakota Rub has cayenne pepper in it and she tried to take her contact lenses out... ow, ow, ow!)

Dang. I was so sure your eyes were green. Mine change a bit too, from blue to greenesque, but not to the degree yours do.
I enjoyed the quiz. Thanks.

Woohoo! I got one right! YAY ME! hehehehehe

Edmonton is largest by area though!
Good quiz, interesting about St. Brendan of Ireland.

Oh rot. I sucked.

dfLeah - they are green - sometimes! Glad you enjoyed the quiz.

Missicat - good for you! I may have gotten one right on your new DC quiz, too....

Reb - Edmonton probably does sprawl further, but doesn't have the enormous population.
And that is interesting, isn't it? Gives more credence to the family story about mom's ancestors coming from Ireland in a rowboat.

Melissa - you didn't suck - but you were wrong about my eye colour! hehehehehe

Great quiz, Bag Lady! Now this tells a little more about me! I live here, so, should have gotten most of them! The igloo answer was just a joke, now come on! I loved your retort about the eyes!

Redbush - some of them were trick questions.... :)

I didn't take the quiz. i kept waiting to answer Celine.

I can't believe it's snowing there. WE got back. I am sunburned. It was over 100 degrees in some places through which we drove. We had the convertible. I roasted. Our AC was stopping at a park and running, fully-dressed through sprinklers.
But last night's margarita was good.

POD - 100 degrees?? Crap. That's too hot for me.
But a margarita sounds good....
Hot chocolate would probably suit our weather better, though!

Well, hey!! I got Texas right!! Woot!!
And I still stand by my answer for #8, 9, and 10. ;)

Wonderful fun, Bag Lady!

kcinnova - you did very well!

Sagan - thanks! It was fun for me, too.

Just as well I didn't try the quiz - I would have got them ALL wrong!

df Bag lady,

Okay, so I guessed correctly on #s 1, 4 and 5.

The rest were out of my league, except that I, too, believe that St, Brendan the Navigator was here before the Vikings.

Although some people think it is a myth, a group of adventurers built a curragh (boat) just like the one Brendan would have used and took the trip, stopping at Iceland and Greenland. The boat survived the round trip, giving much more credence to Brendan's claim.

Bring back the first test. I did so much better on that one!!!

I'm still harping on the igloo question. It brought back such good memories of the year during elementary school when we got eighteen inches of snow all at once, and it was nice and dense, and the kids I played with decided to build an igloo. We actually got the roof to fit together but the foyer (or whatever the correct term is) kept collapsing. It was big enough for three of us to get inside at once. What a feeling of accomplishment we had!

Dawn - I would fail miserably if you had a quiz about New Zealand!

dfTerrie - I read about that experiment after Christine pointed out the St. Brendan legend! I am willing to believe it.

Mary Anne in Kentucky - well you and your friends are one up on me, then! We never managed to actually build an igloo that held up. Snow forts, yes... but that was more of a burrow than an igloo.

My parents actually visited L'Anse aux Meadows while visiting Newfoundland last summer. It was small as far as historic sites go, but they still enjoyed the visit.

I laughed when I read your igloo question the other day. :)
