Frame Fiasco

The Bag Lady has had a terrible time deciding on a frame for her picture. She bought one that was black, but when she put the picture in it, she didn't really like the result, so she decided to paint part of it. She then sent a picture of the framed picture to a couple of friends. They weren't exactly enamoured of how it looked, so she changed it.

Here is what it looked like with the first paint job:

And here is what it looks like now:

The Bag Lady has until 5 pm today to enter her photo in the competition.

What do you think of the frame the way it is?

The way it is now, in the second photo, with the white matting around it, is the way to go.
I just wanted to make sure there were no misunderstandings as to which version I was talking about.
Trust me. It is much more pleasing to the eye. It draws the vision into the picture, as it should.

The white matting is much better, as Leah said, it draws the eye into the photo, not to the frame.

Is it just the photo, or is the black edge a bit less than crisp?

I liked both of them. It's the picture they're going to be looking at, and it absolutely rocks!!!

I think I do like the white one, though.

The second matting looks much better. What a beautiful picture!

I like it both ways actually. The picture is absolutely beautiful. With or without a frame. You have this in the bag. :)

Your picture is gorgeous! Enter it as is. I kinda liked the gold but the other commenters are right - it detracts attention from your picture. You'll do great!!

The gold mat caught my eye, but that isn't the idea here, is it?
SO yes, go with white matting.
ENTER! And good luck!

I love the photo! I agree that the second picture seems to bring the brightness of the photo out more. I especially am fond of sunrises and sunsets, and this one emphasizes a lot of the reds and purples. Frames really enhance the picture so much that it's amazing if you chooset the right one. Beautiful!

I like it with the offwhite matte/paint - compliments the photo instead of distracting from it. Plus I don't like goldy/brassy finishes, so I definitely approve of the final version :)

OOOOH I LOVE IT!
Much better than the first one!

hope you entered it, BL.

The white matting is better. The gold competed with the picture and you want the picture to stand on its own.

Good job, and best of luck!

Thanks, everyone!

I entered it in the competition today as it was in the second picture! (Glad you all liked it best, because I was really hoping I wouldn't have to do anything more to it!!)

And thanks for all your good wishes!

I'm late to the party, but you already knew how I felt about the gold.. so I'd say it's unanimous. Best of luck.. though I don't think you need it.

Who's holding the competition?

Hilary - thanks, and thanks for your help!
It's a local competition being sponsored by one of the radio stations, along with several local companies. The winner is determined by popular vote, so if I could just gather all my blog buddies up to go in and vote, I'd win for sure! :)

It's a lovely photo. I say go with the white - it has a cleaner, more professional look to it.

Thanks, JavaChick! I think the white looks best, too.
