The Bag Lady, as some of you know, is a proud Canadian. She embarrassed herself yesterday in her comments section with her lack of knowledge of American geography (thinking that the Blue Ridge mountains extended into Kentucky. Apparently not!) so she decided to design a little test for all her American readers to see if their knowledge of Canada is any better than her knowledge of the United States! (She's betting that she knows more about the US than most Americans know about Canada, because most Canadians do... sad, but true!) But don't worry, she is also betting that some Canadians won't be able to answer all the questions correctly either!

df Bag Lady,
Rather than feel stupid because I don't know very much, (Are you sure the Blue Ridge Mountains don't extend into Kentucky?) I am proud to say that I am fairly confident that I absolutely know the answers to four questions and can make a good guess at two others.
Thanks for the wakeup call. I have to start hanging out with Reb on Google Earth.
Terrie
dfTerrie - Those are pretty good odds - which ones don't you know the answers to?
crap. I'm Canadian and I don't know the vimy ridge question. I mean, I kind of do. But uh... I almost failed grade 10 history not because of grades (I got 98%, actually) but because of lack of attendance.
I'm also teeeeechnically american though and I actually didn't even know there were such things as blue ridge mountains, and I guess that's worse.
I know that the Blue Ridge Mtns are in West Virginia thanks to John Denver (or whatever his name is now). Where they go is anyone's guess! Now, to your quiz...
1. All of them.
2. Are you a Tory Terry?
3. Labatts. That was a trick question.
4. To get to Alberta, head for the end of the earth, when you get there, hang a left, and there it is.
5. Size doesn't matter.
6. Not the Labatt's logo?
7. He's drunk at the bar again and is his wife PISSED.
8. A
9. Thought it was 12/26.
10. What happened to Mags? Sheesh.
df Bag Lady,
I am very confident on 1,4,8 and 10.
Somewhat confident on 2 and 3.
Almost confident on 6 and totally lost on the rest.
Terrie
I am pleased to say I know all the answers and am very proud of our Prime Minister Celine Dion.
...Gaaah, just the thought of it...
So, then, where do the Blue Ridge Mountains go?
Christine - the Blue Ridge mountains are part of the Appalachians that stretch from Canada down the eastern seaboard.
And I trust you are Googling Vimy Ridge right this very moment to find out why it holds so much importance to Canadians.....right?
Marianne - you gave all the answers away!!! Hahahaha - this cracked me right up. Thanks.
dfTerrie - I'll post the answers tomorrow and you can check to see whether you were right!
dfLeah - Gaaahhh is right!!
The Blue Ridge mountains are only a part of the larger Appalachian range. They are in Virginia. And some other states, I think.... :)
PM Celine Deon.
hahahahaha
Hehe very good. This made me think of "Talking to Americans"!
I missed out on Canadian geography because I was living in Europe while the kids were doing it here... my parents were pretty horrified by my lack of knowledge and have since tried to pound it into my head.
PS Marianne... I'm pretty sure you're mixing up Labatts with Molson. Jeez. ;) "MY NAME IS JOE AND I AM CANADIAN!"
*snort* I like Marianne's answers!
Dahling, I have enough trouble with USA's geography...
Without a doubt, one of the best of Canada is you Bag Lady. Now put on your Toque and grab a hocky stick. :)
POD - okay, maybe I should've used her as one of the choices in the "emblem of Canada" questions....
:)
Sagan - so..... how'd ya do on the quiz, then? (And your answer to Marianne was hilarious!! Wish I'd thought of it!)
Missicat - I used to ask (Canadian)geography questions of young Canadians, until I got discouraged that they couldn't name all the provinces in order from coast to coast, let alone the capitol city of each province!
Sheesh.
Aw, Tom, thanks! Just wish I could skate....:) (I know, I know, I'm not a very good Canadian 'cause I can't skate worth a hoot! Need to use the hockey stick to hold me up!)
Whoa!!! Okay I'll bite, and I promise not to Google anything:
1)c I'm guessing 10 because I can think of at least 9...
2)c One? Northwest?
3)c Ottawa
4)b Western Canada
5)a Canada
6)c maple leaf
7) I have no idea but I'm guessing it's in Quebec
8)c Of course I want to say Calgary, but I'll bet it's Edmonton
9)d Oct 1?
10)c Stephen Harper
When do we get the answers??
Great quiz Sis! I am sure I got them all right, but why are you all mocking our PM Dion?
Melissa - I'll post the answers tomorrow around mid-morning (to give everyone a chance to play).
Reb - I don't know why everyone is mocking poor Celine. *snicker*
I just had to come check out the answers!! I'm confident I know all the answers - I'll stop in again when you post them!
1) I think the answer is 10, but all I can name tonight are:
British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, (is PEI a province??) ...
2)2 Territories: Northwest & Yukon
3) Ottawa
4) I consider Alta. to be Western Canada (one province east of BC)
5)Possibly a trick question, but I'll go with Canada
6) Maple Leaf! A pretty red one :)
7)I have no-eye-deer
Sorry!
8)Edmonton (Calgary is the cowboy capitol, right?)
9) July 1st :)
10) Well, it WAS Stephen Harper, but I think he has finally stepped down??
And Celine was PM of Vegas last time I checked. ;)
PS: I can see the Blue Ridge Mtns from my front yard, but I don't know how long they run...VA, WV, NC, and GA??
Provinces and territories aren't the same? Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
And the only Vimy I know about is in France.
The only reason I know the Blue Ridge mountains are in Virginia is because my father sang that song so much. They may spread elsewhere, but I'd have noticed if they got this far!
Mary Anne in Kentucky
Sarah - I'll have the answers posted by mid-morning tomorrow for sure! And I'm sure you do know all the answers!
kcinnova - wow, you did pretty good! Loved the crack about Celine being the PM of Vegas!
Mary Anne in Kentucky - I'm pretty sure you would notice the Blue Ridge mountains - from the pictures I've seen, they are hard to miss! :)
Oh these are fun.. these answers are great. I do know them all.. pretty sure of that.. but I'm having fun reading through this. What a great idea for a post, Baggie. I nominate you for the Golden Beaver Award.
Thanks, Hilary - glad you enjoyed it. Might have to work up another one sometime soon - harder, next time!
Hey Bag Lady! I know them all, and well I should. What a great idea for a blog, especially as it' playoff time in hockey season! Will there be Canadian teams in the finals? It remains to be seen. Celine Dion, our P.M. What a hoot!
Geography is not a strong suit here friends....embarrassingly enough. Husband scrutinizes me for not knowing where places like Macedonia are...I mean...c'mon, just send me your itinerary, aye (wrong usage? I just love that word!)

looks down at paper.
back at screen.
knows she failed.
So I have no excuse for knowing so few of these (I do know SOME) as we have traveled cross-country twice through Canada and spent quite a bit of time there.
But then we've also crossed the US numerous times and I don't know where anything is here, either. Where most people's brain stores spatial and geographic data I just have a big fat hole.
It really is a running joke at home how clueless I am about where anything is.
Great quiz!
Guilty as charged. I didn't even know Celine Dion was prime minister. I thought she was still First Lady! (From Amy, hiding under a rock in South Carolina.)
Redbush - I would have been seriously disappointed if you hadn't known them all!! Oh yeah, our national sport that has been hijacked.....
Rupal - Geography isn't my strong suit, either.... BTW, ummm, where IS Macedonia?
Mizfit - never fear, the answers will be up soon!
Crabby - I really have to work at it - if someone asked me to point to Alabama on a map of the States, I'd probably hit Texas instead!
Amy - no, Celine is PM of Vegas, apparently.... :)
Actually putting one up right now!
