That is incredibly cute and funny to watch. :) I'm afraid I can't tell what is was the Princess was watching so closely, though, but I'm amazed that she noticed the critter all the way up in the tree. Very astute puppy!
Due to the Bag Lady's inimitable skill as a photographer, it is very difficult to tell that there is a squirrel in the tree. If you look very closely, you can briefly glimpse it on the branches above where she aimed when she zoomed! *sigh*
Miz - don't feel badly! Play it over and over, maybe you'll catch sight of the little squirrel!
Susan - if the Bag Lady was a better photographer, you might have noticed the squirrel that is clinging to the tree. (I actually lost sight of it when I zoomed, and was on the wrong branch...sigh)
new*me - that is so true! What originally caught my attention was the squirrel chiding the dog. This is but a brief moment in the saga!
Susan - the squirrel has watched the Princess play, I think, and realizes that when she does, it's "grip firmly around neck with teeth and shake very hard!" - I think squirrel feared the consequences of playing!! :)
ex-S - treerats!! Hahahaha. Damned destructive ones, too. But cute.
That made me laugh! How long did she sit at the bottom before she got bored/the squirrel came down? I'm guessing the debacle didn't end in squirrel pie...
TA - she was there quite awhile - eventually, with a little persuasion from the Cowboy, the squirrel left the tree and took off into the bush, with the Princess in hot pursuit. Fortunately for all involved, the squirrel made it to safety!
Crabby - As far as I know, the Princess doesn't usually catch anything, either. On the other hand, the older cat is an excellent hunter. He brought home a weasel the other day, and weasels are extremely quick....
naggggggggy nag. wheres our daily dose of BL? (wink) my weekend was filled with less music than Id hoped (mine. not the toddler's concert. *sigh* mamahood) as TT had a raging ear infection.
Hilary - the squirrel was almost right at the top of the tree, clinging to the trunk. When the picture zooms in, his face is visible as a blurry, lighter bump on the trunk in the top right hand corner of the picture for a second or two before I zoomed in on the branch below where he was sitting. Sigh.

Sometime I thing we humans need to get tips from the very intelligent puppy ;) A lesson on perseverance?
"If I sit, and show what a good dog I am, can I have some?"

Mary Anne - such a well-trained dog, eh?
I thought it was going to be a bird. I was going to be super concerned, given my recent experience!
df Bag Lady,
Every day a new adventure!
Terrie
Gena - I'd be concerned, too! But no, t'was a squirrel.
dfTerrie - never a dull moment on Scratch-nut Creek Ranch! :)
Poor Princess, the squirrel didn't want to come and play.
Reb - not even when the Cowboy shook the tree! The squirrel just jumped to a different tree....
Squirrel! OK, got it now! :)
Not a very social one at that, though, seen as how he didn't even want to play with The Princess!
Tell Princess that squirrels are nothing but treerats and are not worth whining and barking over.

Too cute!
Our cat dreams big as well, but has no ability (thank goodness) to actually catch anything.

AWWW! Princess made me wish the apartment I'm in allowed dogs...
Tricia - hopefully someday soon you'll be able to have a dog. Don't know how I lived without one for all those years!
Very funny! Ha!

Her tenacity kind of reminds me of a certain Jack Russell Terrier that I know.. the tail wags too. ;) I still never saw the squirrel though.

I would have never guessed a squirrel.ha
Maggie - squirrels are really hard to photograph when they're hiding in trees.... sigh
