Clippity-Clop

Here's a look at an alternate form of transportation.

We don't use it often anymore, but if the price of fuel keeps going up....

The only obstacle is that there is a city by-law in place forbidding horses on the streets!
Sheesh.

I love it! Gas here has gone up 30+ cents a gallon just in the past couple of weeks. Fortunately I have a very short commute (2 miles) or I might be hitching up the cat...

Ah, the simpler days.
Seems to me GP's bylaw came about after someone rode his horse to work every day. Or was the bylaw already in place but commonly unknown?
Either way it's a shame.

Missicat - Hope for the cat's sake the price of gas doesn't go any higher! (Cats are so stubborn about things like that...)

dfLeah - the bylaw may or may not have already been in place, it's kinda hard to tell. It certainly got pushed through in a hurry if it hadn't already been there.
Personally - I wouldn't have ridden a horse in town for any amount of money (it's scary enough in a car) - there have been over 300 motor vehicle accidents there since the first of the year!! Those people are nuts!

It's so Little House on the Prarie! Of course you'd probably get run over with all the crazies out there these days...they have no patience for those of us seeking a more simple life. *sigh* oh well : )

Emily - you are so right! Wouldn't dream of taking the buggy out on the roads anymore. We used to, but with all the oil field activity around here now, it would be suicide! They won't even slow down for the tractor and hay-wagon.

Hmm, we've got a cross-country move coming up, I wonder how many it would take to transport us in style?

Err, maybe not.

Cute shot!

Crabby - that is something the Bag Lady has always sorta had a hankering to do - follow the old wagon trails (in a real wagon) like our ancestors did to get here in the first place. Of course, the Bag Lady would have to take her cell phone, and have a bathroom in the wagon... Guess then it wouldn't have the same flavour as it did for the original settlers, would it?

Somehow Sis, I can't see that your horses would be happy hauling your motor home with all it's amenities! Great photo though.

You're probably right. Dang it all.

The price of petrol and diesel in NZ has gone up dramatically over the last six months. Can I borrow the horse!

Was reading some of your older posts. Loved the one about the cell phone. We've just got a new one - I can't make head nor tail of it. Gonna have to sit down and read the instruction book today. Sorry to sound old, but I miss the days when you could get a new phone and just pick the damn thing up and say "Hello"!

Dawn!! Nice to *see* you again! I hear you about the damned phone. Those were the days, weren't they? So uncomplicated.
Glad to know I'm not the only one having troubles with a cell phone. (If you figure yours out, let me know, 'kay? Maybe you can give me some pointers....)

I was reading that gas might be up to $4/gal by summer. If that happens, horse and buggy might be the way for me and Dan to go on our vacation!

I sure am glad I walk to work these days. I've only filled up twice since September because I only drive once a week any more (Sunday groceries). :-)

I think it's sort of romantic. You can do a whole Bing Crosby thing from Holiday Inn. "In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it. You'll be the grandest lady at the Easter parade..." Think the cowboy knows that one?

BG - the Bag Lady has already cut down her trips to town. If the price of gas continues to rise, she might seriously consider using the buggy!! (And if you want to borrow it for your vacation, you're more than welcome to it!!)

SB - the Cowboy may not know the Easter Bonnet song, but the Bag Lady does! He's more of a "Tumblin' Tumbleweed"-type song guy (oh, wait, that might be a Canadian tune, the Bag Lady's memory fails her.) If you don't know that one, you're sure to have heard of El Paso...by Marty Robbins, who happens to be the Cowboy's all-time favourite singer.

Great photo, Baggie. I'd love to have a horse for transportation. My suburban neighbourhood might not quite feel the same.

Hilary, if you had a horse for transportation, your surburban neighbourhood certainly wouldn't SMELL the same, anyway!! :)
