The Princess has new shoes. The Bag Lady bought these as a bit of a joke, because the Cowboy kept saying the Princess needed boots to keep her feet warm. The Bag Lady thought there was not a snowball's chance in hell that the Princess would even allow the boots to be put on her feet, let alone keep them there...
Imagine her surprise when the Princess not only allowed the boots to be put on her, she wore them quite happily without any attempts to kick them off.
The only problem is that they are slippery in the snow, and the Princess runs everywhere! She adapted, though, and seemed quite happy. The Bag Lady will have to attempt to add something to the soles to give the Princess better traction.
Isn't she stylish?

She looks so cute in them!
So do ranch dogs ever wear little coats the way city dogs do, or are they too rugged for that?
People even put coats on their dogs here in California, where winter temperatures rarely get below 50 degrees farenhiet.
The Princess is quite stylish.
How will she take it the first time they have to be removed to be washed?
Crabby - our ranch dog has yet to wear a coat...the Bag Lady is afraid that would be going too far! The Princess actually doesn't stay outside for long when it's really cold - she spends a lot of time sleeping on the bed. Now, if she was a Real Ranch Dog, she wouldn't even wear the boots. (coats on their dogs when it's that warm outside?! Don't they over-heat?)
dfLeah - she actually only wore them the one time. We took them off when we came back inside. The Bag Lady really needs to add something to the bottom of them to give the Princess more traction. The Princess almost ended up on her nose more than once because they were so slippery. Leather might be a good idea.
How lovely she looks! What about trying some of that puffy paint stuff - they still make it and that is what they put on baby socks I think. Of course if you still have some of your worn out leather slippers, use the uppers, the soles will be polished smooth by now.
Good idea, Reb - the Bag Lady was thinking the same thing...she just needs to get off her lazy ass and do it!
Princess knows she looks sharp and stylish!
What's next - matching Princess and Bag Lady outfits? :-)
I think you need to design a CartSmart bag for Princess. She looks like she's ready to shop in style!
Too cute, Baggie! :)
missicat, that's too funny! (perhaps the Bag Lady could sew a matching coat for the Princess for when they go out to do chores...nah, that'd be going too far...wouldn't it?)
Hilary, hey, at least one of those flasks that the rescue dogs carry around their necks, eh? (full of brandy - for medicinal purposes, of course!) Shopping can be such thirsty work...
She's no dummy! I hate for my feet to get cold, too!
Hi, Bunnygirl! Yes, poor Princess really feels the cold on her tootsies. And you're right about her being no dummy! She sits in the open gate to the pasture when we feed (she does this on her own - we never trained her) and guards the gate so the cows can't escape. But if it's cold, she lifts first one foot, then another, trying to get them off the cold ground! The boots help a little.
Baggie, you sure know how to shop!
I'm chiming in late on this topic, I know, but I am delighted that your dog thought these were a good fashion idea! My pooch was horrified, "what would the other dogs think," etc. These things are perfectly sensible when it's cold and icy outside. Good for you! (And your sensible dog!)
Hi, Mary - the Princess is really well-trained (ha, ha) - actually, we have worked quite hard with her on some things, like making her wait to get her feet wiped when she comes in from outside if it's muddy, so that probably has something to do with her allowing the footwear - plus the fact that no other dogs (or any other creatures, except humans)are allowed in her yard, so she's pretty confident there won't be any witnesses!!
The Bag Lady really expected there to be quite a struggle, and was quite pleasantly surprised. Now, if we could just get her to accept her leash...
