Photo Finish Friday - Stove

The Bag Lady presents.....

The restored stove!
Along with a braided rug she made last week to complete the look.
(If anyone has suggestions on how to get the hastily put together rug to lie down properly, she would be forever grateful! Unless, of course, the suggestion involves taking the rug apart. If that is the only solution, it is going to stay crinkly.....)
Please note the "wood" floor (which is actually cement), courtesy of the Bag Lady's talented assistant curator!

Photo Finish Friday is the brainchild of Leah, at the Goat's Lunch Pail.

You did a grand job on that stove. And good on you for braiding a rug.
The floor looks really good, too. That room looks so cozy.

Thanks, cousin! We are slowly getting our little "Homesteaders Cabin" diorama put together.

Wow...that stove looks new! Fantastic job!

I wish I could offer advice about the rug - my mum tried to make them and they always did that, so I can't say I have any tricks. We just washed it and then ignored it and tried not to trip over it :)

Geo - hahahaha, that's exactly how I was planning to treat this one! Once the diorama is set up, no one will walk on the rug, so hopefully there will be minimal tripping!

Wow, that's beautiful! And I think the only answer for a rug that won't stay down is extended naps on top of it. Keep sleepin' til the job is done right!

Wow! That is a lot of work you and your assistant have done. Great job on the whole setting.

Looks great! Even crinkly, in fact, i like it that way.

That's quite a job you've finished there. If you put the rug together in a week how did you get all the other stuff done? My suggestion for flattening the rug is based on experience with crochet, not braiding, but I would dampen the rug and place something flat (plywood?) over the whole thing and weight it down evenly. It ought to dry flat. At least flatter.

Crabby - that's exactly the solution my cat thought would work... sadly, I took the rug away from him before he managed to flatten it!

Reb - thanks! We have much more to do, but it's starting to feel like we're making progress!

Messymimi - I kinda like it that way, too - frilly! - but it might be a little dangerous.

Mary Anne in Kentucky - I did, actually, try that solution, but probably didn't leave it long enough. May have to do it again, because it did seem to help a little.

I think a cat on the rug in front of stove would be perfect... you know those "look like real ones" that you see in novelty stores!!!
If you like the idea and don't know where to get one, let me know and I can bring one when we visit in June.

Abby cuz - That's an excellent idea! I will definitely let you know if we can't find one.

Yes, it definitely needs a cat!

Wonderful job, Baggie. It looks beautiful. I can't help you with the rug but Google is your friend. And I have to ask, how do you make a cement floor look like wood? I know, Google is my friend.

Now I'll have to remember to come back here to look for your response since Blogger took away our "subscribe to comments by email" option.

Thanks, Hilary! I will check with Google about flattening the rug!
As far as how to make a cement floor look like wood? My assistant curator is a very talented artist - she painted it. She even added a trap-door to the (non-existent) root cellar!

Nice work to you AND your assistant!

Does it work as well as your dishwasher? ;)
