Helloooo??

Hello? Is anyone there? (wow, it really echoes in here....)

The Bag Lady has been neglecting her blog out of sheer lack of having anything amusing, interesting or remotely intelligent to say! playing Scorpion Solitaire on facebook destroys brain cells!

It's that time of year on the ranch when there isn't much going on. There's been a lull in calving, it's too wet and cool to do anything in the garden, and the Bag Lady is pretty sure you don't really want to hear her lousy solitaire scores about washing windows and chasing down and assassinating the enormous spiders that have suddenly tried invading her home! Well, okay, maybe not enormous.... but the Bag Lady doesn't like spiders, so any spider appears huge to her!

The snow is almost completely gone from her neighbourhood, except for a few piles in the shaded areas, and the large pile that the Rancher plowed off one spot out in the pasture as a feeding/calving area. The cows are sick to death of eating hay, so spend a good portion of every day standing over a blade of grass, waiting for it to grow high enough that they can chew it off. The calves are adorable, as always, running and jumping and discovering all kinds of ways to torment their mothers and amuse themselves with mock bull fights. It makes the Bag Lady smile every time she sees them put their tails high up over their backs and take off running at top speed, their poor mothers lumbering along behind, bawling their disapproval, bags swaying back and forth (hmmm.... sports bras for cows? Wonder how that would sell...)

If anything exceptional happens, the Bag Lady will be sure to let you know, if anyone ever comes back for a visit. In the meantime, if anyone is looking for her, a good place to try would be facebook, wasting time outside, weeding the flowerbed. (really)

I always wondered how the poor momma cows put up with their HUGE udders in calving time. Maybe you could invent one - you'd be rich :P

I know the feeling about not too much going on. I was talking to someone one abus ride back from visiting a friend and while making conversation I realised that my life has been school school school for a while.
Perhaps a spring party is in order for all of us :)

Geo - a party sounds like fun! Shall we meet in the middle?

Good for you for washing windows. I suppose ours ought to be done one of these months.
Ah, the lovely in-between time on the ranch. Enjoy it.

If you're looking for something to do.... ;)

Leah - well, some of the windows have been washed.... there are still more. Damn it.

Reb - hahahahahahahahahaha. I have plenty to do, thanks.

I think you need to video those calves for us!

(We won't discuss my solitaire scores.)

kcinnova - If I could get the calves to run and play on demand, I would! It seems that every time they do it, I'm too slow with the camera.... by the time I have it set and ready, they are too far away!
(and no mention shall be made here of solitaire scores, yours or mine!)

hahahaha. It's slow out in the world unless you are a Pakastani or one of those Navy Seal people. The rest of our lives pale by comparison.

Janell - so true. On the other hand, excitement like the Navy Seals had would probably be too much for me!

Of course i'm here. Like a bad penny, i'll always turn up.

Watching the calves must be part of the payback for the hard parts of ranching.

Spider assassinations sound quite exciting enough to me.

messymimi - watching the calves is almost the only reason I'm doing this anymore! It definitely isn't for the money! LOL

Mary Anne in Kentucky - spider assassinations are definitely exciting - I can't help doing the full body shiver after each execution! (damn, I hate spiders!)

Hi, Carla! Glad to see some playing mentioned there!

We've had our own spring spider invasion, with centipedes, and ugh, termites. And the gardening needs some work, but maybe we'll only have one rainy day this weekend.

the Bag Lady said...

Clare - feel free to send some of that rain here.... we are still quite dry in spite of what felt like a lot of snow! And what is it about spiders that makes them want to come indoors in the spring?? (full-body shiver.)

Gah! Visions of giant spiders. Ugh.

I, too, am waiting for the weather to get nice enough for gardening & yard work. We've been getting a lot of rain, and somehow it seems that when we do get sunny days I am busy with other stuff. Soon though!

I hear you...I've been in a bit of a stupor, myself, lately. Just zero motivation. Am thinking that it's spring fever gone awry.

I definitely should wash windows...some enormous thing splattered it's icky stuff all over one of the windows in the family room. I can't imagine how it happened...a fly-over of some sort. I just keep the shade down but I do have to get out there and clean it up.

The image of your little calves cavorting in the pasture brings a smile to my face. Thank you.
