Movin' On

The Bag Lady has been having trouble with her internet connection. It has been quite spotty over the past month or so, and she has called her internet provider several times. Sometimes she has actually even managed to speak to someone, rather than just listen to a recording.

The second-to-last time she spoke to someone, she was told they would send a repairman out, but he did not materialize. She was forced to call again on Friday, and spoke to a different person. This one talked to her at length and asked for a description of what was happening. He diagnosed the problem as a faulty radio receiver and assured her that there would be a repairman in her area on Tuesday. Of course, Tuesday is the one and only day she is not at home, but she sincerely hopes that this time around, someone does show up and replace the receiver, because it is extremely frustrating to not be able to access the internet when she needs to!

It has been a very busy time for Baggie lately. She had a table at the Christmas craft sale in her little community on the weekend, so worked there on Friday and Saturday. Then she spent Sunday helping to move her mother-in-law into town to a brand-new apartment in a senior's complex. Her mother-in-law was hesitant about the move, but decided that she would give it a try, at least for the winter. She can always move back out to the farm when the weather warms up, but in the winter, when it's bitterly cold or blizzarding, she thought it might be nice to just be able to go down the hall to the common area and visit with someone rather than having to bundle up, warm up the car and drive somewhere on nasty roads. There are several people living in the complex who are friends or acquaintances of hers; after all, she has lived her entire 82 years in this area, but it was a difficult decision to leave the place she has called home for 61 of those years! The Bag Lady is sure that her mother-in-law will be back out at the farm occasionally, bringing things back that she has decided she doesn't need in town, and searching for things that were forgotten or misplaced, like the remote control for the television that the Bag Lady knows she placed in mother's purse, but appears to have jumped out somewhere along the way!

Remotes will do that. You simply cannot turn your back on them.

I'm sure your MIL will enjoy wintering in town once she's used to it. Good for her for keeping the option of summer's back at her long-time home.
I hope the connection gets fixed.

P.S. Love the new header.

Thanks, cousin! I really don't know where that remote hid - it was mere moments before we left the house that I put it in her purse.....

I love your whole new look! Blog look, of course, although I'm sure your personal look is just as terrific.

Moving to town for the winter sounds like a very sensible idea. If I were sensible, I'd do just that. Or better yet, head for some warmer climate. Except we will be working, this winter, so leaving is not an option. Earning money trumps warmer climate :-)

I share your internet frustration. Yesterday, a sunny clear day with no clouds between me and the satellite, I tried to do a rather large update. After six hours, and about 20%, it was telling me it had another 22 hours to go. (Trying again today.)

Best wishes to your MIL.

Cheryl - thanks! And yes, if I could figure out how to make money AND vacation in a warmer climate, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
I really hope mother will enjoy living in town. She hasn't lived in town since she was a child.

Mary Anne in Kentucky - it is terribly frustrating, isn't it? Several times in the last few weeks, I've had the internet connection simply vanish right in the middle of something. Aaarrgghh.

Moving to town for winter is much better, I am sure, than my idea, which is move to Tahiti every winter, although the idea has its charm.

I hope she enjoys it, and finds the remote right where it loves to live, between the couch cushions.

Moving to town for the winter sounds like a wise plan. (Have you checked your own purse for that remote? LOL)

Our internet was down last night and I was not far from panic.

Sounds like you have been busy. I hope the internet problem is solved soon. I am sure MIL will be happy in no time, just find that remote ;)

messymimi - the Rancher found the remote hiding under a plastic bag on the chair where his mom's purse had been! (Tahiti does sound good. Can one hitch-hike to get there?)

kcinnova - I was pretty sure it was mother's purse.... :)

Reb - thanks - I hope the internet problem is solved soon. And I'll make sure the remote gets to town this time! (no more hiding!)

Always a sad transition but it sounds like your MIL will have the best of both worlds. Most do not have that option. I wish her happiness there.

And I hope you get your internet issues resolved.

Hilary - I'm sure you are right - she will be happy there, once she becomes accustomed to it.

The gremlins have the remote. They'll return it in a day or so when they're done playing with it. Then they'll comeback to my place and sneak mine for a few days :)

Oh, I hope she finds the remote. Otherwise, it will be on your mind forever! I'm glad she has a place where she can get together with friends, and acquaintances and not have to bear the cold weather to do so.

I don't know if I told you that I liked your new header. It's great! My mom took a while to get used to the home, and town, but then she started calling it home.
