The Bag Lady and the Rancher have been living in a state of upheaval for a week now, and it's not over yet! They decided it was time to renovate a wee bit. The flooring in their home was looking a little tired and worn-out (much like the Bag Lady herself, ahem) and it was time to do something about it. They had been humming and hawing for quite some time, but their friend who is a master carpenter had some spare time and was willing to do the renovations for them, so they bit the bullet and this is the tale of the farmhouse "flip":
Here is the dining room with the old, worn-out flooring:
And this is what the kitchen looked like when the Bag Lady left for work on Monday morning:
This is what she came home to in the afternoon:
Poor old Tommy cat went into hiding when the flooring started coming up, and only came out after the workers left:
The Bag Lady almost fainted when she saw this:
But it was worth it when she saw how nice the floor looked with the morning sun streaming across it:
This is her front hallway:
And this is the new dishwasher, which she had to buy when the old one was pulled out of it's space and they discovered that the floor underneath it was BURNT! There was no way she would allow them to put the old one back ....
Here is another angle, with the finished toe-kicks:
Here is the Bag Lady's office:
*giggle*
Congratulations on making it this far! There is still some work to be completed (re-insulating around the windows and doors, then replacing the casings) but it is starting to feel like home again! The Bag Lady thinks she may actually get everything back in order before .... Christmas, maybe.....

awesome!
The Before doesn't look so bad, until you see the After. Wow! Wonderful! (I love Princess guarding what's left of her home.)

Wow, I have floor envy. This is stunning. The before looked better than mine, in fact, quite good.
I may have to live in my unredone farmhouse for a long time. Does your carpenter friend travel...for free?
Thanks, Marianne!
Mary Anne in Kentucky - the before pictures don't show the seams that had lifted, or the dull spots where the finish was worn off....
Thanks, Gail. I am getting a crick in my neck from staring down at the floor so much! I am so pleased with it! (and I'll check with my carpenter friend about the traveling!) :)
The floor is gorgeous. Good for you for getting it done.
Thanks, cousin! It feels great to have a pretty floor.
I love it a lot!! And I'm so happy that you're happy. Yay!! I also love that table...is it a family heirloom? Even if it isn't, it's just gorgeous.
Your new floor is great, but what does the kitty think of it? That's the real test, you know.
That looks absolutely wonderful - good enough to eat off!
Had to chuckle at the Rancher's office - husbands are all the same!
Cheryl - the table is another "find" - my ex-husband found it in an abandoned shack and dragged it home for me to refinish. It had been used for slaughtering chickens, so the top was full of ax marks and dried blood! I had to turn all the boards on top over and sand them like crazy. So, although it is not a family heirloom, I've had it for 30+ years.
BG - the cats (and dog) are okay with the floor now - they didn't know what to make of it at first!
:)
Dawn - thanks! Hubby would probably kill me if he knew I put that in the post.... but it does seem as though most guys spend a lot of time in there!
LOL at the Rancher's office! Nice of him to keep it picked up and clean. ;)
Your new floor is gorgeous!!
We keep talking about a closet re-do, but the reality of actually living with it in transition is enough to scare me off.
kcinnova - somehow, a closet is worse than doing the whole house! :)
Beautiful! Enjoy.
Thanks, messymimi!
hahaha, i LOVE the ranchers "office." that cracked me up.
the renovations look beautiful!
btw- i love the comment you left on my blog about your parents. sooo sweet.
Thanks, Glam!
Well, you did an awesome job on that table. Gail has floor envy and I have table envy - ha! Also loved the reference to the Rancher's office...it's exactly like Jack's! Who knew?
Wow.. what a difference that makes. It sure looks bright and fresh. Great job! And I like how you and the Rancher each have your own office space. He's such a potty animal. ;)
Wow, that looks amazing! You guys must be so proud (and tired). Whew!
Cheryl - Thanks. Sounds as though men are the same everywhere! :)
Hilary - too cute! You are so punny. :)
Crabby - thanks! Nice to see you back in blogland!
Looks lovely! We need to do our kitchen floor too...and the basement floor...and paint...and...Well, you get the idea. :)
Wow - the floor looks amazing!
It looks like a lot of work, but wow!
Love love love the new flooring! Funnily enough, the Rancher's office is just like the Nameless Man's office here. Did they join a franchise?
What caused the burnt flooring under the dw?
Oooh I love it! It just makes coming home feel nicer when the home gets some sprucing doesn't it? Now you've made me want to bust out my paint bucket. Want to come work on my floor next??
JavaChick - it's a slippery slope, once you start! I want to do all kinds of things now! :)
Geo - thanks! Our carpenter friend did a great job!
Sparrow! You're back! Yippee! The floor was burnt under the motor - we think it might have something to do with that recall I ignored.... ahem.
Charlotte - I'd love to come help you with your floor! Can I pencil that in for 2025?
Ooo, the floor looks great!
Thanks, Gena!
I love it! All bright and shiny and waiting for pawprints! But the Rancher's office looks amazingly like the Captain's office at my house. Wonder if they're in the same line of work. . .
I'm just amazed at how new flooring can change the look! Absolutely beautiful, Bag Lady! I'll bet you find it hard to walk on it! Just kidding! I know how Princess felt! I had the same look not long ago, but, now that things are back in order, we may just have to have you all over for a flooring party!
It looks very good and being one that spends a lot of time around construction I know how much work went into that. Congrats on a job well done to the carpenter.
Amy - pawprints abound! And the Rancher and the Captain may not be in exactly the same line of work, but all offices look alike after awhile....
Redbush - we can party at your house to christen your new floor, then move to our house to christen ours! :)
David - I am very pleased with the terrific job our carpenter did - he's very meticulous and has a great eye for detail!
I loved the office. That is a hoot and a half! I have wood floors in my kitchen and I mopped before I left for work today. They are kind of a pain to keep clean but worth the effort.
POD - so far, I am loving this floor. I use a Swiffer and find it gives me great satisfaction.
How sick is that?
