It has been another busy week around the Bag Lady's household. She has been hard at work at her job in town, and working on papers for the museum.
She and the Rancher took some steers to the abbatoir yesterday after she got off work. The meat processing place that they prefer is about an hour's drive away, but they really do a good job, and their facility is absolutely spotless! The Bag Lady knows this because every time they take an animal there, the owner takes them on a tour! After saying goodbye to the steers, the Bag Lady and the Rancher took the long way home so they could have supper with the Rancher's sister and her husband.
The Bag Lady has a repairman coming to her house today. Remember her front-loading washing machine? The door latch broke the other day and needs to be replaced. She has to admit, she is looking forward to having it fixed so she can do some laundry. (OMG, did she actually say that she is looking forward to doing laundry???)
She also has a meeting to attend this afternoon at the museum.

Recent changes in Kentucky law have made life more difficult for small local slaughterers. Our local rendering plant has had to close because of regulation changes, so disposal of the scraps became ten times more expensive (not exaggeration; really ten) and they can also no longer work on site, which was really convenient for people who were keeping all the meat themselves.
I hope your washer fix is simple and inexpensive.
If February goes, can spring be far behind?

I took 2 (or was it 3?) days off from doing laundry, which was pleasant at the time. Now, however, I am so behind that I may never catch up!
I suppose it would be a very big problem if a front-loader door did not close properly. I still have a top-loader, where a secure lid is not a problem -- but I dream of a front loader...
Mary Anne in Kentucky - our small, independent slaughterers are all government-inspected and have to follow strict laws regarding cleanliness and disposal. I sincerely hope the laws don't change to the extent you describe! The best thing about raising cattle is being able to eat well.
The washer is still on warranty, so I apparently do not have to pay for this repair!
We are experiencing spring-like weather right now, which is making me happy.
Kcinnova - I cannot believe how fast the laundry piles up when you can't do it! And there are only two of us - in a household such as yours with all those boys, it must be far faster!

PS-February went where all the mismatched socks dissapear to. It'll show up when you no longer need it :)

February did fly by, that's for sure. Not complaining - that much closer to spring!
I'm glad the abbatoir is clean and independently run, but I don't think I could turn an animal I'd raised over for slaughter unless times were dire. I guess in some ways we're just big softies in the city.
If January melted, which mine did, then February refroze and ran off in a big chunk.
And there is nothing like not being able to wash the clothes to make you want to do it.
Well, if you had gotten desperate, you could have done them by hand :) Good thing it is still on warranty though. Somehow it feels like late March out there today - I hope that doesn't mean bad things to come.

dfLeah - the unfortunate part? I made a mistake and now have another WEEK to look forward to the repairman arriving. Sigh.

David - I wouldn't mind if the winter months sped by and the summer took it's own sweet time, but that rarely happens. The speed with which January and February flew by makes me fear that summer will feel about 20 minutes long this year!
JavaChick - it feels like spring here today.... it's +10C!! Unreal for February in this part of the country.
BG - both the Rancher and I were saying that we would have to hire someone to take the animals next time - we both hate it so much!
Messymimi - January and February ran off together around here! This doesn't bode well for the rest of the year taking it's own sweet time passing by!
Reb - we were commenting at the same time! It is unbelievably warm here today - definitely feels like spring! I know it's far too early, but I am certainly enjoying it!
(Do laundry by HAND????? Hahahahahaha -- gulp.)

Wish the cats would learn how to do laundry. That is one of my least favorite chores.
