Consequently, the Bag Lady doesn't have a whole lot to blog about. Even her imagination seems to have taken a vacation. She is pondering the state of her household, and planning to do some serious cleaning and preparing for Christmas, but with the mild temperatures and lack of snow, it seems as though Christmas is still far away (even though, according to the calendar, it is less than a month!)
One thing the Bag Lady does have on her plate is sewing a party dress for her niece. The Bag Lady found (and fell totally in love with) some gorgeous fabric on one of her infrequent forays into town, and impulsively bought enough to make a dress. She also found a pattern for a dress that she thought would look stunning on the right person (please to note: NOT on the Bag Lady). So next week, the Bag Lady will fall on her sewing machine in a fevered frenzy, as soon as she gets brave enough to take scissors to that glorious fabric. (She is also hoping that if she makes a total hash of it, there will still be some of that wonderful fabric at the store.....) Of course, now that she has posted about this, she will find out if her other niece reads her blog, won't she?
Here is a rather poor photo of the pattern and fabric.
The Bag Lady will be sure to post a photo of the dress
Happy Thanksgiving to all our American friends!

I'm glad all's quiet on the ranching front. Have fun with the sewing. Such matters are beyond me.
Gorgeous fabric! Post completion photos to inspire me. Ot scare me.
(Two out of three sewing machines have been moved to the new house, but it will be months before I'm ready to do anything with them.)

dfLeah - It is quiet around here. Seems strange. And if the sewing goes well, it will be fun.
Mary Anne - thanks! And it's always good to be a little frightened, don't you think? :) (One needs a challenge once in awhile)
Oooooh lovely fabric!
I have a sewing machine. It came with a DVD.
I have STILL not used it. I think I've told you that before.
I need to sit down with it one weekend.
Oooh, wanna make me a dress too? :)
I love that pattern. I have a sewing book written by a fashion designer that gives basic instructions for how to make clothes. I haven't given up on it yet, but other hobbies came up, and, you know... it got pushed aside. But I really do adore sewing.
Christine - sit down with that sewing machine!! Sewing is so rewarding!
Sagan - anytime you want me to make you a dress, let me know!
Or if you need advice on sewing, ask me. (I may not know, but ask anyway!)
df Bag Lady,
The fabric is gorgeous. You are so much more talented than I am. I wouldn't dare!
Terrie
Great fabric and pattern. I hope it all goes well and your niece loves it!
I'm hoping to do some alterations on my new-to-me sewing machine this weekend. We'll see if I end up having the time for it. I always have more projects than I can realistically do.
dfTerrie - thanks! If I think about it too much, I won't do it, either! How does the song go? The first cut is the deepest....well, hardest!
BG - good luck with your sewing projects! I, too, always have far more projects than I have time for. Not even counting the vague ones in the back of my head....
Soooo beautiful. Can't wait to see the finished article, I have absolute faith in la maison de Bag Lady!
TA x
TA - I hope I can make it look nice! It's such gorgeous fabric, the more I look at it, the more afraid I become..... sigh.
From what I can see, that's a beautiful fabric. Looking forward to seeing the finished dress. There's no real end to your talent, is there?
Aw, Hilary - that's sweet of you to say.....but yes, there is an end. I just don't think I've reached it yet! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Neato.
I'm glad you ahve a bit of time to do some more fun things like sew...I seem to only have time for hemming pants and dull stuff. I love to sew up something pretty :)
Geo - even when I was working full-time, if the sewing bug bit me, I made time for it. I would go crazy, sew 5 or 6 outfits in a week, then not sew again for months...
Im so jealous that you can sew.
not only do I imagine that Id save soooo (sew?) much money were I able--but all my outfits would be unique :)
Miz - it's not hard to learn to sew! As to saving money - the cost of fabric has risen like everything else, but you can still find some pretty good bargains.
As to unique - of course!! :)
Wow! That is going to be a wonderful party dress for a very lucky girl.
kcinnova - thanks - I sure hope so!
