The Bag Lady doesn't spend a great deal of time in town, but has recently had occasion to be there more often than usual. Her mother-in-law had knee-replacement surgery last week, so the Bag Lady has been in several times to visit her in the hospital.
The Bag Lady doesn't really like being in town after dark. Don't get her wrong, she's not afraid of the dark, but she is afraid of things that go bump in the night. Well, more accurately; people who go bump in the dark. There has been a dramatic increase in the amount of crime in the little city where the Bag Lady grew up, and she doesn't like being there after dark. There are some really scary-looking people wandering around the streets.
Last evening, she and the Rancher went to visit his mom. The Rancher had to go to work, so the Bag Lady was going to drop him off on her way home. They decided to grab a burger in town - not a very common occurrence. They stopped at a downtown burger joint, got their meal and sat at a table by the window.
The Bag Lady thoroughly enjoyed her burger and fries, and was gazing absent-mindedly out the window, people-watching. She said something to the Rancher along the lines of "I am thoroughly bushed." He looked at her quizzically and said "You're tired?" She replied, "No, I've been in the bush too long - I'm not used to all these people!"
It was at that point in the conversation that the Bag Lady happened to glance out the window again in time to see a young woman walk smack into a street light. The Bag Lady couldn't help herself, she started to laugh. The young woman bounced off the light post, recovered quickly, and never missed a beat of her text-messaging! That kind of person who goes bump in the night doesn't scare the Bag Lady at all....

Too bad you didn't have your camera! Hope MIL is healing quickly!
LOVE the soap saver!
Sorry to hear about the craft sale - but maybe next time you'll be able to sell soap savers and make your fortune!
Hope you had a good weekend
TA x
OMG.
reason 298347238974 why this breakable mama should NOT LEARN TO TXT!
Sis - I wish I could have captured that on video!
MIL is probably coming home today!
TA - thanks! Next craft sale in 2 weeks - hope there are a lot of frugal types there who can't live without a soap saver!
How was your weekend?
Miz - I'm not a cruel person, but it totally cracked me up! For a split second, I couldn't figure out why on earth that girl walked into that light post, until I saw the phone glowing in her hand!
I can't help it, whenever someone does a thing like that but isn't hurt badly, I can't help but laugh. I think it's because we can all relate to how stupid you feel when you do something so silly. :)
dfBL, please don't worry about laughing at the post bumper. I once saw a woman get hit by a slow-moving car as she crossed the street against the light. She rolled off the windshield onto the street and got up right away, cursing. She went about five feet. Her wig went about 10.
I found that funny because she (a nurse in uniform) was not apparently hurt. Your post bumper is funny. Enjoy it.
SB - it totally cracked me up. I just couldn't help myself.
dfLeah - I think what made me laugh the hardest was the fact that she didn't even look around to see if anyone noticed! She just kept right on texting..... And she smacked it hard - the post had 4 lights on top and it wobbled!!
OH wow. I would have laughed too! That is a priceless moment!
Sarah - it was funny. And if I hadn't glanced out the window at exactly that moment, I would have missed it!
you did amazingly :)
and I wholly entirely COMPLETELY meant it all.
Miz - you are too sweet! Thanks.
That is funny...is also why I don't walk and text at the same time...
Just saw Obama vote on TV...imagine how thrilled the poll worker is?
I could easily have done that with a book, although not at night. If I had, I'd have been laughing too hard to keep walking. (In the house, I have completely missed the door opening.)
Mary Anne in Kentucky
I confess, I giggled reading about it.
Also, it sorta sounds like something I might do. Not the texting, but being totally distracted and walking into something. Yep. I've done that.
:)
Missicat - that would be thrilling to be that poll worker!
Mary Anne - I've done that kind of thing, too, while reading. Or walking.
Javachick - it was so funny! She must do it all the time, too, because she never even looked around to see if anyone noticed!
Oh if only you had been shooting a video at that moment! Too funny. And kinda scary too - considering how addictive this texting is.. for young drivers.
Wow, you got dinner and a show.
Hilary - If only! And yes, it is scary. Hubby said he was astonished at how many people he sees texting when they are supposed to be driving! (Remember, those guys in the big trucks can see right into your laps, people....)
Tricia -"Dinner and a show" - that totally cracked me up! Why didn't I think of that?!!
That's hilarious.
I've seen people text and walk (when I was on strike there was one girl who would read and walk) and I always think, they're going to walk right into something...
Another reason for me to not have a cell phone :)
Geo - I feel kinda bad for being so amused about it, but it was just so funny!
And I totally would have done it myself!
oh, I have SO been that woman to walk smack into the light post. It's OK to laugh. We clumsy people are ridiculous.
Hi, weightinggame!
She must do it all the time - she never took her eyes off her phone!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting! It's nice to know I'm not alone in the clumsy dept.!
I would have laughed too. Unfortunately I did the same thing about 5 yrs ago. But I was tyring to snoop, peering into neighbors house and ran smack into a stop sign. I bounced off, landed on my butt and ended up with a black eye! So embarassing.
POM - OMG - thanks for the laugh! I'm sorry you ended up with a black eye, but I just had this mental picture of you peering into the neighbour's window, then smacking into the stop sign.
**Oh, I just know something bad is going to happen to me now - payback for laughing at other's misfortunes.....** Superstitious? Who, me?
Text messenging. People really do get wrapped up into things... ehhh, around things.. don't they? Funny post!
Aleta - so true! She was totally wrapped up (and momentarily around)!
Hehe this is why I never walk and text. That requires some serious coordination!
I hope she gets all better soon!
Sagan - I have trouble walking and talking at the same time..... no way could I text and walk!
These comments are as funny as your story! Before I read this last night, I was out walking and looking at the stars. I knew enough though to stop and look up, as I have fallen too many times in this parking lot, just walking.
Reb - glad to hear you've learned to stop before you look up! You've taken enough tumbles lately! :)
Fries partner? Fries? xoxo
