Sightings from Another Road Trip

The Bag Lady went on another road trip with the Rancher yesterday. Here are some of the things they saw along the way. (Click on any of the photos to enlarge)

There was a hot air balloon enjoying the calm day:

There were literally hundreds of geese in the air, but it was difficult to capture them on film. The Bag Lady took many, many photos, but with the bouncing of the truck, she took many, many pictures of nothing! There are a few geese just visible to the right in this photo:

Hard as it may be to believe, there are quite a lot of geese in this photo (even though it just looks like dirt on the windshield!):

Heading down into the bleak-looking river valley:

The sheriffs were highly visible. The Bag Lady and the Rancher saw this scene four (or was it five?) times:

Now that the leaves are gone, the willows look red:

When the truck crested a little rise in the road, there was something black in the middle of the road off in the distance. Once the truck got a little closer, it turned out to be a cow and her calf on the outside of the fence! The Rancher slowed down to a crawl in order to pass them without spooking them back onto the road:

There was even a little snow on the ground!

And, at their destination, log piles waiting to be loaded onto trucks and transported to the mill. In fact, that is what the Rancher is doing today - loading these very logs onto trucks.

Have a good day!

Excellent road trip. I wonder what the enforcement issue was with all the sheriffs about?
Plenty of geese on the wing this time of year. Guess it means there'll be snow soon.

The cow and her calf are so cute. I'm glad the Cow Whisperer didn't spook them.

A hot air balloon when its this cold out? That seems unusual!

I love this time of year for seeing the geese! And the trees changing colour:)

All those geese come through my town twice a year during migration. They are fearless, and walk across the street right in the middle of traffic. I'll have to see if I can find some pictures of that to post.

I want to ride in a hot air balloon! Looks like a fun day!

Great road trip Sis. Looks like some one has a load of work ahead of him.

The geese may be getting ready to go south, but the bunnies are still not showing much inclination to turning white yet.

Im kinda jealous of the life you and the rancher have.

I wanna tag along for a week or so.

is that ok?

The Bag Lady had to run to town this morning!

Annette - I'll be right there on the ground, cheering you on!

dfLeah - Thanks. The sheriffs are part of a campaign to slow drivers down around here. There have been a ridiculous number of accidents in this area. The sheriffs have been kept very busy!
And there were so many geese - I wish I had been able to take better pictures!

Tricia - The calf was really young, so that rancher must have a fall calving season.

Sagan - the Canadian Hot Air Balloon Championships were held here on the Thanksgiving weekend!!
Guess it was still warm enough.

Gena - I'd love to see some photos of those bold Canadian Geese!! (Get ready, they're on their way!)

Missicat - I am too afraid of heights to ride in a hot air balloon, but I can see the appeal.

Reb - Thanks, sis! So, if the bunnies aren't turning white yet, but the geese are leaving, does that mean it's going to get cold, but we aren't going to get snow?

Miz - C'mon up! You'd probably be bored silly in no time. I could probably find something for you to do, though - the barn could use a mucking out! :)

dfTerrie - Thank you - you're very kind to say so! Someday I hope to get better pictures. ~~sigh~~

I love to watch hot air balloons, but there's no way I would ever ride in one. I'd love to go to a balloon festival one day.

SB - we are on the same page there!! :)

Haha, I've just been scraping at my laptop screen trying to get the muck off and it was geese!!

Pretty skies. A nice day for a balloon ride. Has Bag Lady ever been in a hot air balloon?

I love when you take us on your road trips. I feel like I'm in the back seat looking in each direction as you point things out.

I'd love to take a ride in a hot air balloon.. which is a strange thing for someone who fears heights.. go figure.

TA - too funny - I was quite disappointed in how the pictures turned out. The first time I looked at the one with the geese, I thought it was just dirt on the windshield!

No, the Bag Lady is far too cowardly to have ever ridden in a hot air balloon.

Hilary - thanks! I can understand the appeal of a hot air balloon and have often pondered how lovely it would be to float around in the sky. Until I remember that it would actually BE floating around in the sky - the idea makes me feel ill.

snow?!? I can't believe you have snow already. You summer lasted what, 3 months??? Crazy, crazy, crazy. Ok, dumb question, does Canada observe daylights savings time?

the Bag Lady said...

Emily - not a crazy question. Most of Canada observes daylight savings time - I think Saskatchewan opts out, but we here in Alberta do. Not that it makes that big a difference for us way up north - when you have daylight for 18 hours, it doesn't really matter if the clock says 8 pm or 9 pm - the sun doesn't set until 11 pm anyway!

Thanks Bag Lady! I'm learning more and more from you every day : )
