Monday Weekend Report

The Bag Lady spend the weekend going round and round the field in the tractor. She is hoping the Cow Whisperer is going to spell her off today so she can get some of her own work done - fun and exciting stuff like laundry, vacuuming, scrubbing toilets and grocery shopping!

Here's a little taste of what she did, hour after hour:

Scintillating, isn't it?

She had to slow down to take the video because the tractor bounces quite a lot over the rough ground, but she wasn't going all that much faster, honest!

She had a serious case of tractor fatigue last night, so spent an hour or so soaking in the tub. Being a 'farmer' isn't all it's cracked up to be - she'd rather deal with the animals, thankyouverymuch.

She also thinks that if she could spend...oh, let's say a month or so doing this, she would certainly lose some weight! She discovered early on that if she eats, even a small amount, then bounces around awhile, it makes her feel slightly ill. Remember when you were a child, and went to the county fair/amusement park/whatever, stuffed yourself with hot dogs/cotton candy/sno cones, then got on the roller coaster...that slightly sick feeling in the pit of your stomach? Or, for you exercise-types, the feeling you get from doing one too many crunches? (Although, if you are an exercise-type, perhaps that feeling is what you are striving for....!) The Bag Lady thought she was being virtuous by taking only some carrot sticks and a couple pieces of the Laughing Cow cheese (plus copious amounts of water - it's dry, dusty work!) when in fact, she couldn't even eat those! Her abs are sore from trying to maintain her balance whilst bouncing around (to say nothing of how her back is feeling!)

Take a moment today to be grateful to the farmers of the world who feed us - it's hard friggin' work!

Am VERY grateful for the farmers. I always loved helping out on my ranch but that would be a few hours or a day at a time- can't imagine doing it every day! That's dedication.

And woohoo, laundry! Although there's something really nice about getting laundry done. I work so much better when I've cleaned things up.

Hope the tub made you feel better! Heart baths.

TA needs core work too! Me me pick me!

Is the tractor too noisy for a walkman to help pass the time, or do you need to concentrate?

TA x

Totally grateful over here!

And sounds like quite a workout, yikes!

Miz - hurry up, would ya!? :) It's a guaranteed workout!

Sagan - I really like the diversity of ranching - something different everyday. I like it even better when the Rancher does all the tractor work! It wasn't too bad to start with, but yesterday almost did me in. Nine hours straight is about 8 hours too many....

TA - I don't think the tractor would be a good idea for you with your back the way it is! Too much bouncing.
A walkman would probably be okay - there is a radio, but I can't stand to have it on. I have a low tolerance for noise, and there's quite enough from the tractor engine.

Crabby - it IS a workout, surprisingly. At least, my muscles are telling me I was using them. My stomach is sore, my back is sore, my neck is sore..... Gah!
(What a whiner, huh?)

Am damned grateful for farmers. They're why we eat.
I'm curious, how did you clean out the logs, brush, etc. that got trapped in the float?
That must have been one hell of a bumpy day to make you sick.

Audiobooks! If you can actually hear what they're saying over the tractor noise (I couldn't) think how much you could "read" as you went round and round and.
And of course you could keep on listening as you vacuumed, and--carefully--soaked in the tub.

I've seen this bumper sticker several times lately at the grocery: "I farm. You eat." I'm very grateful that I don't have to farm to eat, and also that I CAN farm a little. (I used to say "I don't really want to farm. I just want a garden, and an orchard, and some chickens, and maybe other poultry, and some goats, and a steer for beef every year or two..." By that time you're in up to your knees, if not higher.

dfLeah - the logs eventually bump over the stuff that has collected in front of them, which is why it has to be gone over again. Eventually, it all smooths out....apparently.

Mary Anne - audiobooks!! What a great idea! I don't own a Walkman or iPod, but now that you mention audiobooks, I just might be forced to get one. (I cannot listen to music for very complicated reasons.)

Emily - Some days are more of a workout than others! Yesterday was a good one.

Am definitely grateful! Have relatives in N. Dakota who are farmer and ranchers, so I have heard about how tough it is...

I so need core work, am on my way!!

the Bag Lady said...

Missicat - I'll warm up the tractor for you! :)

I salute you, oh frigging hard worker. :)
I don't envy you - my back couldn't take all that bouncing.
Perhaps you could put in for a jacuzzi tub? Beer in a jacuzzi would be a perfect end to a workday like that!

I'm very appreciative of the farmers.

Hope you're relieved of your post soon.

Geo - full disclosure? It IS a jacuzzi tub. But no beer. (Just a good book....) :)

Tricia - it's starting to look like I will be relieved today in order that I may go to town for groceries, do the laundry and housework, etc. Yippee!!

dfTerrie - I like my food, too! And I learned a new appreciation for grain farmers over the weekend. Going round and round in their fields.

Any work that gives one an excuse to not scrub the toilet is a good thing. Or so say I.

You can come and borrow my walkman and all of my books on tape anytime Sis! It's what, just about 8 1/2 hours round trip? Much more comfortable than the tractor I'm sure!

I have always been grateful for farmers and ranchers.

Goodness gracious, woman! You are absolutely amazing.

I've got a pretty deep seeded appreciation for farmers - I worked on a lettuce farm for two summers (peanuts compared to being a farmer, I know, but it's still more than most city slickers my age!) and my uncle is a cattle rancher out on the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border!

Plus, I loves me some food. Yay farmers!

the cow whisperer............you crack me UP! :) :) :P

BG - After 9 hours in that tractor yesterday, I was almost looking forward to scrubbing toilets.
Almost.

Reb - thanks for the offer, sis!
Hubby is finishing the field today.
Whew.

SB - aw, garsh, no I'm not....but thanks! :)

Christine - hey, picking lettuce is not easy, I'm sure! Sounds to me like you've earned you some bragging rights!

Annette - you should see him in action! He IS a cow whisperer!

Always grateful, Baggie.. I can't imagine spending the time and energy that you do. Thanks for that!

"(I cannot listen to music for very complicated reasons.)" You tap your foot to the music and in doing so, accelerate/brake accelerate/brake and lurch around until your brain turns to mush.. right? ;) I sense a blog post about it....

Hilary, you know me too well. Lurch, lurch.....
