Here are a few more photos from the summer pasture.
This is the little pond where the cattle drink. There is a family of beavers who keep damming the culvert under the road that leads to the corrals (you can see the corrals in the background. This is where the Cowboy and the Bag Lady round up their cattle to take them home in the fall.)
Here is another shot of the pond from a different angle:
And here's a picture of the river that is near the pasture:
The Bag Lady is playing out after her busy week, and seems to be fixated on water today. It is supposed to be quite warm this weekend, so perhaps that is the driving force behind her fixation! (Either that or she's thirsty...)
Tomorrow is the longest day of the year! How are you planning on celebrating the summer solstice?
Anyone interested in finding the length of daylight hours in their neighbourhood can find out by clicking here

longest day of the year?
who knew!
I shall now plan a celebration by hiring a babysitter for at least half the day.
thanks BL for the heads up!
It's already the summer solstice! Crap, time sure flies. I'm having fun this summer and want time to just slow the heck down.
Love the pictures!
Love the water pics. It's good to see these sights.
Not sure what I'll do for the Solstice, but it must be observed.
Tomorrow's the solstice? I thought June just started! Aaaaa!
Hmmm, I shall celebrate by going to work for only half a day, and then going on a bike ride with my husband. Maybe I'll go to the pool, too!
oh wow! I can't believe how quickly the summer is going by. Hmmm...to celebrate I think I'll spend all day working in my yard- I'll have more daylight hours to get more done. Then hubby and I will go to a suprise party at a local park which should be tons of fun. I hope you have a great weekend!
Solstice already? I need to pay more attention!
Nice pond-- good choice on the part of the cows!
Mizfit - You're welcome. In your neck of the woods, you should have about 14 hours (& 3 minutes) of daylight!
Crabby - I can't believe how fast the summer is flying by!
dfLeah - Thanks! I'm sure you'll find a way to celebrate.
Gena - good for you!
Emily - enjoy the party!
BG - thanks!
I've been investigating a little, and wish I had done so yesterday so I could have added it to my post.
We will have 17 hours, 24 minutes of daylight. Civil twilight will be from 4:16 am until 11:39 pm, and nautical twilight for the REST OF THE NIGHT!
In contrast, Houston TX will have 14 hrs, 3 mins. daylight; civil twilight from 5:54 am until 8:52 pm. Nautical twilight from 5:21 am 'til 9:26 pm.
I did manage (finally! Damned Blogger) to post a link to the site where I found this information, so you can click on it and find the hours for your own area, if you are interested!
The river looks nice and peaceful.
I plan on heading out to the Jazz festival and sitting in the park, sipping beer and sitting in the sun.
We've been joking about prancing around in the fountain in the park at midnight foe the solstice but I think that is best left alone...I'm too old to be talked out of a fountain by a policeman :)
By river I mean pond...something about living in a river city...I assume all water is riveryish
I can't believe it is already the solstice! Will think of something to do. Maybe celebrate by the pool? Think that would be appropriate....Our 4th of July holiday is in a couple weeks - three day weekend! WOOHOO!
Geosomin - technically, you were close when you called the pond a river - it is, in actuality, a creek that has been formed into a pond by the beaver dam. (Feel better now?)
Enjoy your jazz festival!!
Missicat - Celebrating beside the pool sounds like fun!
We have Canada Day coming up, too - July 1st - which falls on a Tuesday, but I think that makes next weekend a long weekend here. (but I might be mistaken...)
Have fun playing! And thanks for the reminder about the longest day of the year... must definitely take full advantage of that:)
More great pictures! I want to see some peppers :).
Sagan - thanks! Enjoy your weekend!
Mark - I will post photos soon, but they are only (and only some of them are) at the blooming stage right now, so don't be disappointed! I will chronicle their growth for you, though!
I will be going with friends to see Fire & Dragons at the Museum. The museum was supposed to be closed this summer for renovations and then couldn't get the contractors, so lucked out and got the dragon exhibit. The fire part are local stilt walkers that will be putting on a show o/s the museum. Should be fun, I am taking my camera to see what I can do with it.
Nice pictures Sis. Now I know why you take the trailer out there.
So, summer begins and the days start to get shorter - whaaaa!
Reb - enjoy the show!
Yup, it is really pretty over there. Hopefully we'll get over with the motorhome for a little camping soon.
I don't tend to think of the Summer Solstice as something to celebrate, since it's not that drastic a difference around here - not like up north. Neat site though, I found out that we will be enjoying 15 hours and 39 minutes of daylight. Ah, how I love this time of year.
I imagine I will putter in the yard tonight and then go to bed around 11 because I am tired. In other words, pretty much a normal day. :)
The Bag lady is hoping for good weather and clear skies. The forecast is for 27C, so it will be warm, but that usually brings a thunderstorm in the evening. Hopefully not tomorrow!
i love your pictures BL..its like a bloggy vacation ;-)
Fitarella - glad you like them. Take a trip and never leave the farm...err.. your chair! :) (you probably don't know that song, you young whippersnapper, you!)
So wish we had this type of scenery here in Texas. Its so dang flat! lol
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Maggie - Alberta is pretty flat in places, too, but luckily, we have nice scenic areas up here!
Hope your weekend is great, too!
