The Bag Lady feels like she has been on the run for a month or more, and hasn't had time to actually write a proper post. Summertime is so much busier on the ranch - there's always something that needs to be done. Whether it's calving season or haying time; gardening, or even just good old housework, something is always demanding attention. Somedays she feels pulled in 18 different directions, there is so much to do and she doesn't seem to have the energy she once did!
All of this means that the summer just seems to fly by. It's the end of the first week of June, for crying out loud! How did that happen?
We had a little rain shower blow through here last night, so everything looks really clean and green. It looked as though it was going to be a real storm, but was actually very tame. Rather disappointing, in a way. The Bag Lady can remember storms from her youth that would terrify her and make her want to hide under the bed. We don't see many like that anymore. On the one hand, that's probably a good thing, but in another way, there's nothing like watching the magnificent power of nature to make you feel insignificant, and put you in your place. Sadly, the Bag Lady's dog doesn't feel the same way and will sometimes hide under the coffee table at the first hint of dark clouds!
Her cats love summer, too. They have taken to spending most of their time outside, either hunting mice, chasing bugs, or sleeping in the sun porch. Occasionally, they will decide to have their nap in the house, so the Bag Lady is accustomed to finding one or the other of them curled up somewhere in a chair, or on the couch. Once in a while, they find better places for their naps, as evidenced in the following little video clip.
Hope you have a great weekend!

Ah, the Cat Cave. Your kitty did not seem pleased to be disturbed.
I'd like a good powerful summer storm too. I miss the wild ones.
They used to scare me until one day dad said how thunder and/or lightning put nitrogen in the soil. Since that day I've been fine.
I still jump when the thunder is really loud or unexpected, but as long as I'm indoors or, at the very least, on the deck, I like to watch storms.
That video is great. Love it! Oh, and cute kitty! :)
Thanks, Javachick! He is a cute little brat!
That was just precious and perfect, the way it looks at you with squinty eyes and meows.
I love me a good summer storm...goodness knows we could use the rain down here. The high for tomorrow is 96 with no sign of rain for the next few days.
Kitties are so funny...they act like they own the whole house some times.
Have a great weekend on the ranch!
SB - and such a squeaky little meow from a cat who usually is more of a top-volume howler!
Emily - we had a couple of really warm days here, but it has cooled off and we got a little rain. Just enough to settle the dust. Hope you get some rain soon!
Happy weekend BL!
video is too cute. "gimme my space ma!"
Happy weekend to you, too, Fitarella! And yup, should have left him alone, but couldn't resist a peek!
lol Two days in a row you had me laughing. Thanks! :)
I'm a huge chicken when it comes to storms. Like your cat, I hide under covers too.
Maggie - glad I could make you laugh! There's nothing like a good laugh (or a good storm!) to get your heart going!! :)
I wonder if it's not so much that the storms aren't as wild as that we're just old enough to have usually seen worse...
Awww cute little sleepy kitty! My cats taken a real liking to sleeping on my chair and on my bed and just about everywhere that I want to be. She's a sneaky one.
Also I love storms. Seeing them roll in across the prairies is SO cool!
Ahh Baggie! First the MOOOOO then the Meow! I love your videos. The weather is HOT here today and humid, brought in by thunder storms overnight. I love them too.. cats and storms.
Hilarious video--I love the way you slowly pan up the extended leg to reveal the disgruntled kitty.
Our cat is obsessed with jumping on the bed whenever we try to make it. She loves to run around under the sheets when we unfurl them. Often we have to just make her into the bed and let her wander out when she gets tired of it. (Needless to say we don't tuck in the sheets).
BG - you have a point! There have been a few storms over the years that have managed to scare the crap outta me!
Sagan - my cat has only recently taken to sleeping under the comforter - maybe he's trying to tell me it's time to vacuum the chair he usually sleeps on....
Hilary - the not-storm here brought in cooler weather, so perhaps that will happen there...or not...
Crabby - this little kitty loves to "help" make the bed, too! But this time he had crawled up there long after it was made.
I love the way everything looks after a rain shower, all green and fresh.
I know what you mean about summer flying by! This YEAR is flying by, and I want this flying to stop! Why is it the older you get, the quicker time passes?
I always love your videos!
and echo the where hath time gone sentiment AND have to add that i ADORED your comment at scrumpys.
I need some BUDGETING help and admire you.
M.
Cute video Sis. Sibu doesn't do that, he can't figure out that the blanket is light and he can slip under it. Or maybe it's his long hair, he doesn't like that static that occurs.
I know the saying about "laying down with dogs" I wonder if the same applies for "laying down with cats?"
To the cat cave!
It's crazy how time flies by doesn't it? Here I was with all my grand reno plans for June...and reading this I"ve realised June is *here*. Err...so lots to do then.
What am I doing typing? :) GOtta go...
Susan - it's true - time DOES seem to go faster the older you get. Sigh.
Mizfit - thank you! The budgeting thing isn't all that hard - I just stay out of town - makes it easy to not spend any money that way!!
Reb - Fuzzy only just started doing that - don't know what exactly he was hiding from! :)
EWBL - All I know is that if you lay down with cats, you usually end up with cat hair up your nose! (and in your eyes, and your mouth...)
Geo - I know, I can't believe it's June already! Get working on those projects, girl!!
awww cute!
Thanks, Sydney!
df Baglady,
I know what you mean about weather being different now fro what it was in our childhood.
When I was a kid, here in New York, it used to rain every evening for 20 minutes sometime with thunder and lightening and that would break the day's humidity and the night would be a wee bit cooler. It seems not to do that any more. Do you think it was the advent of air conditioning made the change? ;)
Terrie
dfTerrie: it may not have been AC, but something happened: ..............might have been something to do with beer, I'm not sure............
And I thought it was just me who was busy and out of circulation. Of course, I've got no ranch to take care of so there's no calving, haying, and what was my garden is known by the kids as Amy's Cruelty to Plants Patch and consists of a dead tomato vine, so I'm feeling puny by comparison to The Bag Lady. But I did see a bunny in the driveway and I've kept pretty busy watching for it to show up again!
Amy - bunnies are always good to watch!
