Moody, Misty Mountains

Travelling down the Jasper-Banff parkway:


It was cloudy and rainy for the entire trip, which was unfortunate for the Rancher - he's never driven through the mountains in that direction.

Here is a photo of the Columbia Icefields. The glacier has noticeably receded in the half century since I was a child.

    Love the moody mountains. Shame Don couldn't see them in full sunshine, though.
    As for Athabasca Glacier, sigh, it gets smaller every time I see it.
    It's still beautiful.

    I love those hints of mountains peeking through the mist more than any sunlight peak.

    I think you'll just need to make another trip so The Rancher can see it all in sunshine-y glory!
    I have childhood memories of tractor rides on the Columbia Ice Fields. It seemed a lot like getting into a military transport vehicle.

    Beautifully evocative mountains.

    And I think I might have driven that road many years ago (well I traveled from Banff up to Jasper and I was on a road!)

    And I didn't actually drive - I was on a coach. Loved the scenery.

    Lovely photos! Now I want to go on vacation somewhere. Taking photos in my yard is fun and all, but a change of scenery would also be nice.

    kcinnova - I have never taken the tour of the glacier, but hear that it's very interesting.

    Sagan - the cows were fine - they had lots to eat, so were happy. I don't think they missed us one iota!

    Dawn - if you traveled from Banff to Jasper, you were on that road! It's the only one. And I'm glad you enjoyed the scenery!

    JavaChick - you'll have to visit the mountains! Perhaps next spring.
