That Monday Morning Choo-Choo

The Bag Lady is glad that it's Monday! She can go back to work and get some rest!

She and the Rancher decided that, after 14 years (and the unfortunate New Year's Eve firecracker incident!) that it was time to replace the linoleum in their house. They shopped around, looked at sales flyers and finally decided to go to town and see what was available. The laminate flooring that they saw in one sales flyer turned out to be the kind that looks better in pictures than in real life, but while they were wandering around the store, they found some they quite liked, so they bought it.

Conssequently, the Bag Lady spent the weekend wrapping and boxing china and crystal, moving china cabinets and tables and chairs and bookshelves and other furniture, cleaning out closets and trying to find places to put things out of the way! It took her two solid days. The Rancher got a call to go to work hauling some equipment and was gone for most of those two days, so she had to do it alone. (She also had to leave the fridge and stove for him and the installers to move - she's tough, but she's not crazy!)

She has never watched the TV program "Hoarders", but some of her facebook friends have pointed out that perhaps she should..... *ahem*.

She hopes to have pictures to share with you in a week or so. In the meantime, here is the newest addition to the ranch:

  1. Aww another cutie. Wall and floor covering probably makes the most outstanding difference to any decor. Looking forward to the photos. :) (Before and after?)

  2. Yes, Hilary, I remembered to take some 'before' pictures (after I took all the furniture out.... but at least I remembered!)

  3. I am sure you'll be happy with the laminate. It looks good and it's durable.

Nice to see the new calf.

  4. I hope you like your new floor. I'll be curious to see how it comes out.

As an aside, did you know Shakers were very fond of linoleum? It's one of the things that surprised me when I toured some of the Shaker villages in New England.

  5. You ARE a trooper, aren't you? We have a laminate floor in our kitchen and hallway...it's Pergo and it's about 8 or 9 years old. It's great. It looks beautiful and it's tough.

We also put some in our porch addition a few years ago and it's awful...it was cheap and it looks it. So there you go...

That is one cute little calf and a really good picture.

  6. I don't envy you. It seems like it's half the work to clear out a place before you can even start to renovate it.
I'm looking forward to pictures :)

  7. That's one cute calf. I do like the redheads.

And taking it easy on all that hefting and hauling. That's what you got married for - isn't it? A handy person to do all the heavy stuff?

I became aware of what a desirable asset a man in one's life was, when I was up a ladder in the pouring rain trying to stuff rags into the drain pipe so that ash from a volcanic eruption wouldn't get into my water tank.

I thought to myself "I've got to get a man" - so I did.

The fact that I love him is quite beside the point. I'm just waiting for the next eruption. HE can go up the ladder this time!

  8. We definitely need Before pictures so we can suffer along with you.

That's a beautiful cow, so I hope the calf will grow up like Mama.

  9. What, you're not putting the laminate down yourself? It is fairly easy, but, if you can afford someone younger to do it...I don't blame you ;) Look forward to seeing it.

  10. dfLeah - I am really looking forward to seeing the flooring in place!

BG - I had no idea about the Shakers affinity to linoleum! That is very interesting....

Cheryl - I hope ours looks good and lasts a very long time!

Geo - I feel as though it's going to take forever to get everything back in place! My house is looking very odd right now.

Dawn - is THAT the reason I have a man in my life? In case of volcanic eruptions?? :)

Mary Anne in Kentucky - I think the "between" pictures are the painful ones!

Reb - I thought about doing it myself.... and it isn't as if I couldn't do it, but I'm just so darned busy with other stuff. Better to have a professional do it.

  11. LAUGHED at that first sentence as my husband says that on a weekly basis.
Our little calf (aka the child) tires him OUT.

  12. Carla - and it's true, sometimes! :)

  13. Isn't it fun to redecorate? (As she runs screaming from the room remembering all of the work it took last time.)

I'm sure you will be very pleased, and I don't blame you for not moving the stove and fridge.

It's probably a good thing the calves don't stay quite that cute when it comes time for them to be sold -- I don't know if I could.

  17. I keep looking at our carpet and thinking it needs to be replaced. And then I think about all the work it would take me...

  18. df Bag Lady,

Your new calves are always the surest sign of spring.

  19. kcinnova - our house is still in a huge state of upheaval, but I think it's definitely going to be worth it!

dfTerrie - spring must be here, because we are definitely calving! :)

  20. Cute!

My week has involved packing lots too. I'm getting tired of boxes. Will be glad to be finished moving!

Good luck with the installation of the flooring :)

  21. Sagan - it almost feels like moving around here, too! (In fact, I was thinking to myself that if hubby wants to get rid of me, now would be a good time, 'cause I'm half-packed already! LOL)
    Good luck with your move!

  22. What a cute little one! Mama looks like she's posing for the picture, and very proud of her baby. Oh, how well I know about having to box up china, and move furniture. Then it's all worth it when the flooring is done. How exciting!

  23. Redbush - It IS exciting, and exhausting and stressful, but it will all be worth it, as I'm sure yours was, too!

  24. YAY for the LONGASSNESSMENT.

I love the flooring and am forced to revisit a memory I dont love :) of a redo I lived through where, when all was saiddoneandtiled, I missed my OLD FLOOR!

laminate is always a better call in my canine&child&lottsadirtyboots experience.
