Can You Read This?

Here's something for all of you to ponder.

This is an old-fashioned grass-seeder, and the lettering is all but worn off. Can anyone figure out what it says?

Of course, there is no prize involved, just the satisfaction of being able to tell the Bag Lady what it says!

  2. L-E-O

HA! I love the glue, can't you just imagine the person that glued it on there outlining the letters before sticking it on there? (lets just pretend it was hand-did :)

  3. It looks like LELY to me.. with the E tilted upward and the second L tilted downward.

  7. Hilary - actually I meant the song by The Kinks:

I met her in a club down in old soho
Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry-cola
    C-o-l-a cola
She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said lola
    L-o-l-a lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola

But the Manilow one will fit too! hehe

  9. Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions!
I originally thought the first letter was an L, too (and actually LEVY was my first guess, Tom), but the more I look at it, the more I think the first letter is actually a C.... what do y'all think?

(and thanks, Hilary and Missicat - now I've got that damned song running through MY head, too! - the one by the Kinks)

  10. It looks like LELY to me. I tried hard to see LEVY, because there was a farm equipment manufacturer of that name in Louisville long ago, and it would be neat if one of theirs got all the way to Canada, but LELY looks more likely.

    Mary Anne in Kentucky

  11. Mary Anne in Kentucky - it would not surprise me at all to have farm equipment here that was manufactured in Louisville - especially something as old as this seeder appears to be.

(I was secretly hoping you'd take one look at it and have an "AHA" moment!)
